Searching for the perfect taco one requirement is a spot for the Taco Pastor and this is the first place I found one near me. When the rumor hit that is exactly why I headed to Taqueria Yasmin #2, the taco stand at the back of the Fresh World international supermarket in Manassas. Why is it #2? It’s a sequel to a taqueria that’s been operating in Mexico City since 1988.
Those origins all but assures the flavors I was craving. Even better? On Friday, the taco Pastor is filled with pork carved from the turning spit.
The taco Pastor is a Mexico City tradition, having started in Mexico by immigrants from The Ottoman Empire. The result is a tortilla which is filled with the deep-red strands of marinated pork, but also plentiful cilantro, onion, and burstingly sweet pineapple. to hold the ingredients together and provide a fun stretch. Read moreGreat menu, selection, prices. Service was polite and prompt. You order at the counter and pay. They were slow bc it was right before closing, and nice enough to bring it out to me at the table where I sat with my son.
I ordered pastor, asada, lengua, and pollo. They were all fantastic, but the lengua was a little disappointing, however, it was not bad.
The salsas were delicious with great heat levels, but if you're not used to spicy foods, they may be a bit hotter than what you'd like, but I definitely recommend trying them both.
Lots of cilantro, lime, and radishes, which for me is also a plus. The onion was there, but not overwhelming. Generous with the pineapple on the pastor, which I loved.
All in all, great little spot, and definitely recommend going out of your way if you need to. Also, it is inside the Fresh World grocery store, all the way straight to the back...
Read moreIn the heart of Fresh World, there's this cool spot called Taqueria Jazmin that's kind of like a tasty secret. Despite being inside a store, this place is all about fantastic food. The must-try dish? Tacos Al Pastor. Seriously, they're like a flavor explosion and even got a shout-out from the Washington Post as the best in town!
Now, here's the thing—I love this place, but it's kind of hidden. I wish they'd consider moving to a spot where more folks could easily find them. The food is just too good to stay a secret. If you're into genuine Mexican flavors and want a taste adventure, Taqueria Jazmin is the place to be. Give those tacos a try—you won't be...
