I went to this place for the first time recently based on the good reviews I saw. When I walked in it was empty and the lady behind the counter looked at me as if I shouldn't be there so I kindly asked if they were open and she said yes. 1st impression not so good in my opinion.
I said I would like to place an order to go and she grabbed her pad. I ordered the following menu items so we could give them a try and see if they compared to our favorite Mexican place.
1st I said I'd like to get the Mexican Steak and because of the really bad language barrier I had to point at the menu item-the lady said NO, I said ok can I get the Steak Ranchero she said ok then I said with NO beans, she repeated no beans to me, I said yes, then she said ok.
2nd I said I would like the Solocarne Fajitas-I asked if I could do half chicken half beef she said NO, I said ok-then she said ok.
3rd I said I would like the guacamole and she said NO.
4th I said I would like to order some tacos. I said I want 2 chicken tacos, she said ok, I then said I want 2 steak tacos, she said ok and lastly I said I would like 2 Chorizo tacos, she said ok.
She went to get the food ready. Without getting into details of watching that circus and having the uncomfortable silence I waited roughly 30 minutes while she heated up the food (she pulled all of it from her fridge or her condiment station.
I got the food and headed home so we could try it out again based on good reviews.
The steak Ranchero steak was pale in color which told me either it was old or it was boiled either way it was terrible and chewy. I had said no bean I got beans which were gross along with the incredibly dried out rice.
The Solocarne Fajitas steak was like the bits you get from the grease trap and chewy/fatty. The rice was just as dry as mine and the beans were gross. Even the veggies weren't good.
Instead of 6 tacos we got just 4-2 chicken 1 steak and 1 chorizo. Not sure if I was charged for 6 or not because I was never given a detailed receipt.
The taco shells were so dry we tossed em out, all the meat was dryer then a popcorn fart! The only thing that seemed good was the cilantro.
This place in my opinion is terrible so I am very surprised at all the good reviews but to each their own.
Tip-running a business in an English speaking country is great but I really feel you should learn the language fluently so you can talk to folks coming in spending their hard earned money. This will help with customer service and orders from being messed up. This will also eliminate having to point at a menu item when...
Read moreNice sized tacos with plenty of meat, but fairly bland and the carnitas were super dry, and TERRIBLE service.
I went to the "order here" and the lady just stared at me. I ordered 2 tongue, 1 asada, and 1 carnitas taco and then held out my card. She asked "for here or to go?". I said "for here" and she turned away, ignoring me and my outstretched card. I went and sat down after an awkward beat. Got 5 tacos. When I asked, she said "oh, I heard three tongue", and then walked away. Never asked how I was doing or if I needed anything else. I went up to pay and she just stared at me again. I handed her my card even though she didn't offer a check or even a total. Still charged me for the extra taco. Didn't apologize. The card thing didn't have a place to put a tip, and I was done at that point, so I left.
Got treated like dirt on her shoe even though I was a paying customer and even speak great spanish. I will...
Read moreThey now accept credit cards. Was traveling and googled a quick place to eat and this popped up highly recommended on my list. It’s a little eatery under a Latin Market in a very quiet residential neighborhood (at least that’s what it felt like at 7:30pm in 9° weather.
Walked in to jovial noises from regulars sitting at the bar chatting and laughing. The proprietor José and Alicia greeted me and helped me pick a good meal. I ended up with the Bistek Mexicana with no beans. They served me homemade tortilla chips and some mighty spicy salsa (which I LOVED) while Alicia prepared my dish on the grill. The bistek was a good portion and cooked properly. There were some gristly bits but for the most part the beef was tender and well seasoned. Overall, I’d come back to try the tacos which I heard...
