Grunions in Manhattan Beach isn’t just a bar—it’s the neighborhood institution that manages to feel like a dive, a Cheers-style comfort zone, and a secret foodie haven all at once. And baby, the kitchen here goes off.
Even the beer-battered chicken tenders—yeah, the thing you’d roll your eyes at on most menus—are crispy, juicy, and wildly addictive. They’re not trying to reinvent the wheel; they’re just doing it better than anyone else. And if you’re lucky enough to snag one of their daily specials before they sell out (trust me, they will), you’ll quickly realize this isn’t your average sports bar coasting on wings and nachos. These specials are curated, limited, and made fresh—not just leftovers or close-to-expiring afterthoughts like most spots.
Owner Rob? A gem. (Relax ladies, he’s married—I’m just giving credit where it’s due.) He’s got that perfect balance of chill and charm that sets the tone for the whole place. I love him to death and truly the reason I’m a loyal patron. The vibe he’s created is what keeps locals and loyalists coming back, including yours truly. And when it gets busy? Even the kitchen staff pops out to help—yes, the back house hustles with a smile. That’s family energy.
Grunions is the only Manhattan Beach spot I’ll genuinely miss when I move to Oahu. So if you’re smart, you’ll pull up, order whatever’s on special, nod at Rob and savor the...
Read moreI just spent the last three days in Manhattan Beach. My friend and I were lucky enough to find this neighborhood bar in town. The owners name is Robert, he's a great guy, really friendly, knows his sports, and is loved and respected by all his patrons and staff. Tons of TVs with every sporting event that is on that day. A great menu and good cooks, the prices are very good and the service is fantastic. The folks from the neighborhood that go there are super friendly and informative about their city. I've got a lot of years under my belt, been to many places that wanted to be like Grunions, they just couldn't pull it off. If you want to have a great time, go visit Robert and his staff at Grunions. I promise you'll be glad you did. Awesome place. Thanks for...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I went to grunions on Thursday and we sat right at the bar, and although there were two bartenders, we sat there for 30 minutes, and nobody even acknowledged us. One server was just talking to some friends on the side of the bar, the whole time, and one girl who was clearly the bartender was almost never behind the bar, not sure what she was doing, but she was just serving some other locals who had been there for a long time and never made eye contact never came over to us once. 30 minutes is a very long time to sit at a bar and not get acknowledged on a quiet...
