Cravings Gourmet Deli — Restaurant in Manheim Township

I’ve always enjoyed Cravings and have often ordered from them for our office. Today, however, the experience was poor.

My office staff ordered three sandwiches for lunch, but one of them was incorrect—we received a California burger instead of a California chicken sandwich.

Mistakes happen, not a big deal, we weren’t upset, so I called Cravings to explain the mix-up. The person I spoke with on the phone was friendly and immediately acknowledged the error, she offered to either remake the correct sandwich or issue a credit. Since we paid with cash, I decided I’d head back to pick up the correct order. Simple enough.

But, when I arrived to pick it up the man at the counter, who I presume is the owner, looked right at me and asked, “Did you bring the burger back?” I was caught off guard and replied, “No—was I supposed to?” He stared at me, deadpan, and said, “Yes, it would have been an even exchange.” Umm no - I’m not exchanging a sweater sir.

Not only was this super weird and contentious, but I was being treated as though I’d done something wrong, when all I’d done was pick up the order as it was handed to me.

I’m still baffled. What would they even do with a burger that had already left their premises???? Toss it, most likely, which I’d already done.

I can’t understand why they would make the customer feel responsible for their mistake. It was disappointing and left a really sour taste after what should have been a quick and simple fix.

Reuben sandwich corned beef tasted a burnt flavor, it was really greasy moist that the inside paper wrap stuck to the bread and made it difficult to remove. It had to be peeled off in sections. The child size hamburger meal really didn't have a decent size burger. The tomato slice was larger than the burger! Actually the burger was more tomato, lettuce, pickles, and onion than a burger. If the burger was two ounces, it could be considered a slider. Based on the reviews, we thought we would like to try out the deli but never again will we order from here. Also the child's fries were soggy. The child beverage wasn't sent. I realize that it was a child's meal but for $8.99 it should be better. It also should be noted on the Door Dash menu that the sandwiches are with no fries or chips. We did order onion rings as a side. This also was soggy and not eaten. Cheeseburger sub etc. In some ways Cravings is a throwback sandwich shop and more like a big-city deli, insofar as it uses high-quality meats, all cut fresh, along with high-quality rolls. Biting into Its cheeseburger sub, as long as you make sure the roll is toasted, is an exquisite taste experience, combining the toastiness of the roll, the warmth of the cheese, and the texture of the properly cooked burger. I live near Cravings and have eaten there dozens of times--with only rare disappointments.
