One of the worst sushi restaurants I have ever been to.
I'm not even mad. I'm just sad. sad the food wasnt good. Sad we we wasted food. Sad the waitress was overwhelmed. Sad for the shape of the restaurant. Sad for the nice owne
The restaurant is filthy. And old. They sat us is in the corner by the sushi bar. They havent swept or mopped in months. How can a restaurant be this filthy and expect customers to think any care is in the food either?? I really wanted to leave right then but my sister has been trying each sushi place here since we moved to the area.
Im up at 2:30 in the morning feeling sick writing this. You know the sushi isnt good when you think the taste is a bit off as you are eating it. We only finished half of our food. I hate wasting food too.
The gross spicy sauce on every roll. I counted on the menu . It's on 13 of the 21 speciality rolls. Btw the prices in store on most if not all of the rolls is higher in store than it says online. The rock lobster roll. One of their most expensive speciality roll which is fried. tasted like dirty oil. Pretty confident the egg rolls are frozen. Eel looked grayish and bad. Didnt eat that. Shrimp looked gross. They dont have proper sushi plates to serve on even. I probably ate more ginger than food. I left hungry.
The service.Hmmm. the waitress nor the other lady at the front knew if the soy sauce was low sodium or regular. The sushi maker had to speak up to tell us.Besides the dirty floor, that was the 2nd uh oh moment.
We got 9 rolls. 9. We were the only ones in the main restaurant side for most if not all of our 1 hour visit at 6pm on a thursday night. The waiter did not tell us which rolls were which. I have never been to a sushi place where the waitress didnt run that by us. It was a guessing game. Especially considering most of them are covered in that horrible orange "spicy sauce". The waitress didnt check on us until I had to get up and ask for the check. We were never offered another beer. never offered a refill on water. 3 of the rolls were wrong ones. The manager had to apologize and nicely got us one of the ones we did order . But then never checked on us again. We were the only ones again in the main restaurant.
Our tab was $150 before tip. There was about 6 people in the bar. Our waitress was serving bar in there most of the time. One waitress for 2 areas. While the front desk girl was staring at her phone most of the time.
It felt like they hoped we paid our bill and just wanted to avoid any conflict. how does a manager not come by an check on a customer who had an issue when we were the only ones in the dining room at dinner time? I honestly think they are embarrassed of their restaurant and the food.
Some people might be taken by neon lights and odd and flashy decor but I look at the basics of cleanliness at sushi bars. the bathrooms still have pull down paper tissue dispensers that you would expect in a 40 year old hamburger stand. not a sushi place. The floor had not been vacuumed in months if not longer. Tables being held straight from wobbling with folded up paper. Not even large enough plates to carry large orders of sushi. I cant think of the last time I have seen sushi served on standard round plates.
California roll is described as: Crabstick and Avocado. Go figure getting the most universal roll wrong.
This restaurant is in a time warp from 1985. In...
Read moreI ordered the sushi and sashimi combination ($31.50!) to go. I was told it would be ready in 40 to 45 minutes. I arrived in 30 and my order was already on the bench waiting for me to arrive. Got home and opened the carryout container, and was completely disappointed. It looked, smelled, and tasted as if it had been prepared hours before and pre-assembled, then thrown in the fridge. The tuna had an off color and tasted not old, not stale, but dry and, well, sort of tasteless. The salmon was likewise dry, but with slightly better texture and flavor. Slightly. The scallops, and the mackerel were better, tasting fresher, but I attribute that to the fact that mackerel is an oilier fish, and the scallops were not "dry" (or diver) scallops (the mackerel and scallops are the only reason they got two stars). All of this was served on top of the usual shredded daikon (which had little taste) and a wilted salad that had no taste or texture whatsoever.
Perhaps had I ordered a la carte, things would have been better, but that should never be the case with a "quality" sushi restaurant. All in all, a total disappointment and a waste of money. Never again.
Ōwatatsumi, do I miss living in NYC sometimes.
OK, here's my edit. I'm going to attach photos to substantiate my review.
If there were no scallops or mackerel, what were the white disk-like pieces and the darker pieces of sashimi in my order? As for salad and daikon, see my photo. I stand by my review. Your sushi is prepared in advance and held at temp, but it is most certainly not prepared fresh when ordered.
One of the photos clearly shows the daikon, carrot, and salad base on which the sushi was served, and the other is my receipt. Please stop telling untruths.
So "spring mix" is not salad is what you're tell me. Also there is no such fish as "white tuna." What you're serving is escolar, which has been banned in both Italy and Japan as being toxic to humans. Striped bass is also toxic, as it contains mercury, PCBs and other toxins. Great. Two more reasons to never consume...
Read moreWe dined here back in the early years of this restaurant (approx 10 years ago), and we thought it was good, but a little over-priced. Because of a gift card, we thought we'd give it another try. Went for dinner on Friday night, and ordered their house salads, along with 2 entrees (mine was a Thai seafood paella dish, and my wife had a seafood risotto). The salads were good, with the house ginger dressing. The entrees, while tasting good, were a disappointment because they skimp on ingredients. The paella was basically a pan of rice, with 2 shrimp, 1 scallop, 2 mussels & 3 rings of calamari. The risotto was similar - a bowl full of risotto, with 6 shrimp & 1 scallop on top. And both of these dishes were in the $15-19 range. If you like to eat a lot of rice or pasta, but skip the main ingredients (in our case, seafood), then this is a great place for you. If you are like me where you want a lot of flavor with a nice blend of ingredients, then this is not a good place to dine. The service was fine, the ambiance is very dated, but still nice. But it's not worth a return...
