I might have enjoyed it but for our waiter, who was surly from the moment we sat. It was my 18th birthday, and I was told by all my friends to expect something crazy, but I got only an inflatable frog headband (which blew away the moment we stepped outside) and 3 scoops of vanilla ice cream. As soon as we sat down the waiter demanded our drink orders, starting with me. I was unsure for about 3 seconds, and he said “water?” I was inclined to agree so as not to be a bottleneck. I flipped through the menu after everyone else ordered a drink like a regular and found no section on non-alcoholic drinks, so how was I supposed to know what to order other than water? Within 5 minutes he was back, asking unenthusiastically after our orders. “Are you all ready?” He said without bothering to conceal the sheer apathy in his voice. Apparently, my friends are all regular enough customers that they were, though at least 4 of them hadn’t even opened their menus. He tried to start from me again, but I choked a bit and my friend on the other end offered to start. She started to order, but apparently took to long, because the waiter “lowkey crashed out” on her as my other friends so aptly put it. Looking to avoid the same fate, once he got to me I ordered the first thing I saw on the page for sushi, and almost offended he asked “no hibachi?” Well, everyone else had already ordered, but they all had ordered lobster and I was trying not to spend a ton of money, so I wasn’t able to just copy them. He was there, glaring at me for the crime of being a first-time customer, and in an attempt to avoid his further ire I just said, “No, I guess not.” When he left, he took the menus with him. About a minute later the chef came and asked again what hibachi everyone had ordered. When he turned to me, I said “I don’t believe I had any,” (the awkward feeling I had was making me act extra formal) and he seemed disappointed. I felt bad, but also even more irritated that I hadn’t had the time to pick something. He did some tricks with his cooking implements and the food, and though it was pretty cool I felt deprived, since none of it was headed for my plate. My sushi came out very fast, and was pretty good, but I had a hollow feeling as I finished the 6 tiny little rolls and saw all my friends with full plates of fresh cooked food. Suddenly, seemingly as soon as they had started into their plates, we were being given boxes. I was confused - where was the “crazy dragon mask” I had been told about? The disco ball I could have sworn someone mentioned? Everyone was jovial as they packed their food, and the checks came. My mental state’s saving grace was that the total for my order came to just $7.40, including the tip fee that they automatically include in your charge. “Boy smile, it’s your birthday” a nearby (different) employee told me. I left a $2.60 tip to round it to a nice $10, since every employee but my waiter had been at least agreeable, but I left feeling like I just wasted my golden birthday. To summarize, the food was fine and came out fast, and most of the service was decent as well, but the waiter was clearly not enjoying his job and made me feel slow and embarrassed for not knowing the menu as well...
Read moreZERO STARS. I have celiac disease, and the man up front assured me that any sushi roll could be made gluten free. He assured me three different times throughout the process that what I ordered was gluten free, and that he even supposedly checked with the chef, and he said it was gluten free. My receipt even stated that the order was supposed to be gluten free.
Trusting this, I got home with my food and started to eat my roll before noticing crunchy stuff on the inside. I called the store to confirm that this was a safe crunchy product, perhaps made with rice flour? The woman told me no, the crunchy stuff was definitely made with gluten, and on top of that, the spicy salmon in my roll also had gluten in it. This food was in NO WAY safe for me to consume. It's absolutely ridiculous for them to try to claim the food is gluten free when most of the employees don't even know what that means.
Celiac disease is a very serious medical condition. I have been sick for the past week, and studies show that it can take 3-6 months for the intestines to fully heal from a single exposure like this. You are seriously harming people by conducting business this way.
I'd also like to point out that beyond the allergen safety, this place was pretty gross. It seems like they try to hide the grime with dim lighting, but you can still tell. I didn't venture further than the front entry/counter, but my shoes were sticking to the floor with every step. This place is filthy and needs a serious...
Read moreI ate here on 11/5 at 6 PM. Place was 3/4 full and our waitor had too many tables to manage. We made our order of steak for the kids with hibachi, chicken tempura for the wife and two of the most expensive sushi rolls for myself. When the food arrived, I never reviewed my rolls. I was told they would come out. So we ate our entire meal before our waitor came to let me know the sushi side was busy and had not started my order and blamed it on the many orders of sushi from the hibachi side of the restaurant. I had stated it was next to impossible to have a steak out prior to a sushi roll. The timing made no sense. Also to not be informed until we were done eating was unacceptable. I confronted the manager to only hear more excuses. Timing of the dishes should have been taken into consideration if the sushi side was behind. I canceled my two rolls in the end and the manager gave me a 15 percent off. Far too little of a compensation for a ruined dinner with my family. On the food side for what we did receive, the tempura was very dry and bland and the steak was a bit chewy. We did order medium well for the kids but cmon, chewy for a 25 dollar steak for my kids and bland tempura. This was 50 dollars of the worst money spent and no tip, and I always tip above and beyond. I have been here before when the food and service was amazing. I will let this slide one time, and if this happens again I will...
