Our son took us there for our anniversary. I have to say that I was highly expectant of an excellent meal but sorry to say I was disappointed.
I have been to Dog Lane and the Vanilla Bean and have loved both restaurants. When I heard that these were the same owners I became very excited even though I had heard it was more expensive and upscale than the other two.
The inside of the restaurant was very nice. The service by our waitress, Sierra was excellent! She went to the kitchen a couple of times to ask questions in regards to food allergies which was very helpful.
The problem we found was the food and prices. The food was good but not excellent. When paying a high price for food, I expect excellence. My plate came out with very lukewarm veggies. The waitress apologized and took it back. After reheating, the veggies were a bit overcooked but the salmon was done correctly. It all tasted fine but tasted like something I'd cook at home. Unfortunately the sauce for the salmon didn't have much flavor, that really disappointed me. My son's and husband's meals were similar. All tasted good but not exceptional. I do have to say that they did enjoy the appetizer of homemade potato chips with onion dip.
Given the portion sizes (nothing being brought home), the prices being so high and the food not being what was expected, I honestly don't think we will be back unless we hear that things have had a drastic change.
Hopefully the owners will read the mixed reviews and make some changes because we certainly do need a good quality restaurant in the area. Let's hope it can be brought up to that exceptional level that I and others have...
Read moreReally want to like this place! Love their other 3 restaurants....85 Main is always superb, Dog Lane never disappoints, but this new location needs to make some changes to be at the caliber of their other restaurants. To be fair the remodel is very nice...the staff friendly, although they need more educating on menu items and such. My husband and I have been twice..once on their first day, lunch was good - nothing special. I had the salmon Rueben - a nice piece of salmon but the sandwich overall lacked flavor...maybe an Asian slaw would jazz it up. The Brussel sprouts were good as was the Tuna Poke. My husband had short rib melt, again nothing special.
Our second visit was in the evening for dinner. We ordered drinks - I ordered their House Margarita with Grand Marnier Foam - GROSS!! I was so disappointed - I always order margaritas at 85 Main and they are delicious. Not sure what happened here...but so not worth $12. and I was changed for 2 when the bill came. My husband had a basic Sam on draft....wanted a second but they ran out so he chose something different - again when bill came he was charged for 2 Sam's and the other beer - very disappointing considering they were slow. I had a Caesar salad and the fish and chips. Salad was good and plentiful, fish and chips....very over battered and greasy - fries ice cold!!! My husband had the sausage and broccoli rabe orecchiette - he like it but again nothing special at all. Perhaps the new kitchen staff is still working out the kinks but if they stay the course this new location will not be...
Read moreWe had a gift card to try this restaurant out. We also saw they had kids chicken tenders, which is a must for the kids when we eat out. It was mediocre food and experience at best. We ordered the Irish nachos and Brussels sprouts as appetizers. The Brussels were the only redeeming food we got all night. The Irish Nachos we’re ok. For entrees, we got the kids chicken tenders, and 3 burgers. The kid did not like the chicken tenders as they used too much pepper in the breading. (Honestly, they didn’t look that great either, so I don’t blame him.) All 3 burgers were poor quality and nothing special. The service was super slow. Waters took a while to be refilled, and no plates were given for apps. I have food allergies, and they offered me to turn my burger into a salad after I asked for a gluten free bun, which they offered on the menu. I went for the salad, but it was an extra piece of lettuce, and there was nothing for the burger/salad. It was a dry salad and patty. It was supposed to come with bacon jam, or I’d expect some sort of dressing if it were a salad. The house fried potato chips had no flavor either. Finally, it took 2 tries to get some ketchup which we ended up sharing from the table next to us. We’d be more disappointed if we had to spend our own money, but we’re still not interested in going back. There’s other places with similar environments at similar or cheaper prices with better food and service. It matches a 99 restaurant at best at a higher price....
