Some people write quick and to the point reviews, this is not one of those reviews so buckle up. The Oriental Cafe may be a normal Asian cuisine restaurant to most people, however, to me it is a significant amount more than that. I have been going to The Oriental Cafe since I was in 6th grade, I am now a Sophomore at UCONN and I still find myself going to this place at least once a week. I have made several life-changing decisions within the walls of this restaurant. The owners still recognize me and always say hello and still remember my usual order that I ordered almost every time 7 years ago. The staff are generally kind and efficient, the food is exceptional, especially the sushi. The wait is usually very little and the prices are decent for an every day college student. For a lot of students and locals, The Oriental Cafe is a decent sushi place, however for myself, it is my Central Perk, my JJs Diner, my Cheers and my Cafe Nervosa. If you are a student, local or are passing through, try this place and you won't be...

Of the two bowls of miso soup I had while waiting, one was clearly watered down with tap water. I could taste it. We kindly talked to our waiter and she rudely walked away before we could finish explaining the soup.
We then waited 1.5 hours for 3 a la carte sushi rolls that, when they had finally come, had fallen apart.
And, as soon as I had finished writing the tip, the waiter came over and took it off the table. I was still getting up. She reached over my friend to grab it. She took one look at it and then argued with me about the tip that I had given her. The entire restaurant watched as she complained to us about her problems. I couldn't believe it. We left. We will never...
Read moreWe had a party of 2 and paid for a 50 dollar meal. After our waitress took our bill she returned and told us we had to tip 15%. We ended up leaving a few more dollars after being pressured to do so. She then took it again from us, looked it over with a co-worker, and they both stared us down as we left! Never have I ever had a waitress come back and ask for MORE in their tip. We should have left without tipping anything after this happened. We hope the management sees this and knows that this was very uncomfortable for us as customers and frankly unacceptable behavior. We likely will not return after this and will just simply...
