Sonic Drive-In — Restaurant in Manvel

This used to be a great Sonic's Drive-In. I don't know what happened but for the past 2 years it has gone from bad to the worst possible food! I LOVE corn dogs but every time I order them here they're so old the hot dog is greyish and shrunken and the cornmeal covering is hard like it's been microwaved. I've gone when it's 50¢ corn dog day hoping against hope to get a fresh corn dog to no avail. Even the frozen corn dogs I microwave at home taste better than this Sonic's corn dogs! I ordered the boneless chicken wings and when my husband brought them home I sent them back because it was such a hot mess in the bag I mistakenly thought it was a chili cheese hot dog! I've had the boneless chicken wings here 3 times and they are breaded so much so that you can't find the chicken meat! They were hard and also seemed to have been nuked in the microwave! I've had the chicken fried steak sandwich twice and it was so hard both times I couldn't bite into the hockey puck patty! Microwaved some!?! I've ordered onion rings 4 times in a row now and gotten them burned 3 of the 4 times! Their French fries and tater tots are nearly ALWAY cold and taste of OLD OIL! What the heck! Does the manager at this Sonic's think the customers have no working taste buds!?! I worked in fast food restaurants as a teen! HOW the heck do you overcook or burn anything when there are timers for everything! And you're supposed to change the oil in those fryers once a week not wait until your fried foods all taste of old stale burned oil!!! NO AMOUNT OF FILTERING CAN GET THAT BURNED STALE TASTE OUT OF THE OIL!!! You know if something is burned, old or hard that customer will get mad and might come back to scream and yell at someone and maybe get you fired - so WHY risk it! The burgers and hot dogs ARE good but half the time they don't make them to YOUR order i.e. mayo instead of mustard or no onions - they'll screw it up like they don't care how YOU want it! And sometimes the hot dog weiner looks and tastes old! Check your food BEFORE you leave! My advice is to skip this Sonic's - there's a Jack in the Box and Burger King with delicious food next door or across the highway and a Burger Barn further into Manvel. This location used to be amazing! The last few times I went my order was messed up horrendously. At one point my husband was pulled in a stall and was brought the food 3 different times as the order was messed up numerous times. He spent a total of 40 minutes due to their mess ups. The second time it was brought out the car hop told him our order was going to be refunded and on them for the inconvenience. As the food was brought out to us for the third time by a different car hop he asked her about the refund and she giggled and said “no sir, nobody here would say that!” He of course told her her whom told him that and was then given two free slushee chips and the correct food and proceeded with our food furious and decided to never go again! Today my kids were begging me for a corn dog whacky pack from sonic and as much as I didn’t want to spend my money at this location I went to make them happy since we live right down the road, I truly wish I could’ve put a good review and turned an awful experience into a good one but we got another awful experience I didn’t want to go to another place to order food so I ordered the breakfast burrito with tots and I promise I have never seen such a small amount of egg on a breakfast burrito and I ordered 4 of these for the whole family and all of them looked like the picture I’ve uploaded here. Since my last ordeal was not handled to well by the actual location I will be reaching out to corporate since it is inevitable that my children from time to time will want sonic and I will now have to make a 30 minute drive to avoid this location as they are ripping people off by not measuring the food properly, not handling the food properly as no one was wearing gloves when prepping the food. Today marks the 5th consecutive visit where I asked for a simple plain hamburger (single slice of beef between a hamburger bun) and received anything but. EVERY SINGLE TIME they somehow confuse PLAIN hamburger for cheeseburger. Wouldn't normally bother me, but since my 7 year old doesn't like cheese, even after scraping the cheese off, the burger generally goes uneaten. So today, I immediately opened the burger to check it out and guess what? Yup, freaking cheese! I returned the burger through the window and explained the error. About 10 minutes later, the gal hands me another bag through the window and I left. Got home to discover (wait for it...) NOT a plain hamburger. NOPE!!! They gave me someone else's order: double cheeseburger fully loaded and mozzarella sticks. If good help is really that hard to find, maybe the franchise owner should seriously consider closing shop. After all, if simple instructions like "plain hamburger" are too difficult for these people to understand and follow, what other (sanitary) instructions are being overlooked and unobserved?
