I thoroughly enjoyed this dining experience at Marco Prime. I have a pretty diverse palate, so I was very excited to try the different courses that the sunset menu had to offer. For the first course, I chose the quinoa caprese. The plate was so vibrant and colorful. The crunchy watermelon and soft buratta had a pleasant combination of texture. I loved the tangy tomatoes and that the variety of sauces were bursting with flavor. I usually like quinoa, but I felt like I was eating popcorn kernels. Like I could almost chip a tooth! That honestly was not a fun surprise. But if you ask for it without it, it’s amazing! The bread service was delicious because of the fancy lemony mascarpone butter. It reminded me of eating a keylime pie for an appetizer. The bread was not that special (not to be rude just a little blah) but the butter made it yummy. The bacon wrapped filet was a slice of heaven. I loved the blue cheese on top, and it was so soft and tender. The au gratin potatoes were buttery and garlicky. My mouth is watering typing this! Dessert is always my favorite part of any dinner but this one was kind of strange. It was presented as a gelato but it didn’t melt. The mouthfeel was a little unsettling and there was a mountain on each of our plates. It tasted delicious when you get a bite with the brownie chunks and bruit bits, but unfortunately compared to the Mount Everest of scoops of strange who-knows-what it is, there just wasn’t enough! Just wish there was a little more toppings that’s all. The restaurant was elegant and had a dark moody atmosphere. I loved getting to get fancy and dress up for a fun night out with the family while trying a wide range of new flavors. I think this is definitely set apart from other traditional steakhouses. It has its own modern funky spin. We loved the idea of eating a earlier dinner and finishing just in time to watch the sunset, which is just what we did! The portions were pretty big which we were worried maybe the sunset menu was something a little daintier. We were hungry!!! It was a wonderful night and we are so happy we had this elevated culinary experience...
Read moreLet me start with the positive-great location. Inside and outside are both great seating choices. The service is what really went wrong here. Food coming in at a close second. Their menu online sounded delicious and they showed a 3 course summer special. I was able to get my party on board to dine here based on the published menu online.
We arrived at 8pm and got our table and drinks and then told the menu the restaurant published online as a summer menu was only between the hours of 430-6. I showed both a manager and the owner their own website. The manager told me the kitchen isn't ready to make that food after 6. I re-showed her the menu, reminding her it is the same food on the regular menu. She reluctantly said they would make an exception since it was not properly advertised. Then the owner (Joe) came over and completely over ruled what should have been a very easy decision. It is their own mistake but we were denied their published and advertised summer special menu. As a women I felt the owner completely dismissed me and barely even gave the question any attention.
Dinning at a restaurant where a single steak STARTS at $40 should be accompanied by high class service. We ran out of water several times, our waiter's interaction with our party was what was really missing. Our Gluten Free diner was served bread crumbs on her main plate. This is something the chef and waiter should have been conscious of. 5 star restaurants are to take care of their table from beginning to end and unfortunately we felt more left out of the dinning experience. Our waiter wasn't rude yet possibly inexperienced. It was service I could have gotten at any fast casual on the island. Between the food and the service, it never came close to the dinning experience we were counting on. I 100% do not recommend this restaurant on the sheer fact that we had a better time at CJ's on the water just 2 minutes away and should have gone...
Read moreReally terrible. I was pretty shocked based on the reviews just about everywhere online. Here's our lowlights:
They have laminated menus. This may sound like a snooty thing to critique, but hear me out: at a place a couple can't get out of for under $100, a laminated menu is a warning sign. This means that they do not cycle their menu items, which means they are not taking advantage of seasonal availability, which means the food may not be as fresh as you'd like it to be. Think back: how many $50+ per person places have you been to where the menu wasn't paper because of seasonal ingredients/cycling entrees/etc?
My wife ordered a drink and it came with a fruit fly in it. She mentioned this to the waiter and he said "Well, it's Florida.... sorry about that. " She was offered a replacement but declined.
It is incredibly loud here. I don't know if that's just the clientele, or what, but I could barely have a conversation with my wife sitting next to me without shouting.
My wife got their vegetarian pasta dish. The sauce can only be described as canned tomato paste. It was extremely thick and chalky- not a marinara or some other normal sauce, but literally like they took a spoon of tomato paste out of a can and plopped it on the plate. They then topped this with balsamic vinegar. This combination was extremely offputting and tasted awful.
I got a $48 steak, mac and cheese, and sauteed mushrooms. The mac and cheese was fine- creamy and hot and had a bit of flavor to it. The mushrooms were really disappointing- they were overcooked AND rubbery, which is odd, so that leads me to believe someone made them well before I got in and they reheated them in a microwave before sending them to the table. Finally, my steak which I ordered medium rare was overcooked and was medium, bordering on...
