Barrels of Margate — Restaurant in Margate City

We made a reservation and arrived at the appointed time. The hostess asked us if we had a reservation we said yes. They asked if we were the party of 15 and we said no. They then said that they would seat us as soon as there was an available table.

The restaurant is small so the reserved table for 15 took up a little under half of the available seating. All of the other tables appeared to be less than halfway done with their meals.

I was reminded of the Seinfeld skit in which he reserves a rental car but the agency does not have a car for him when he arrives. Bottom line (if you don't want to search for the video),: we left and went down the street to Boca coal fired grill where we were sat promptly without a reservation and the food was delicious.

Also worth noting that Barrels does not serve alcohol. This is fine if you are expecting it and plan ahead. They do allow you to BYOB, but we did not know that ahead of time and arrived from Ocean City ( a dry town)...

I have visited this restaurant twice and both times with a Groupon. The food is very good. The service is slow and very disorganized. They often have the one server in duty handling the fake out orders and engaging in long conversations about the status of how big the grandchildren are getting. Where's my food and what about the water I requested 15 minutes ago. Same old story when it comes to restaurants; owner is not on site so service is poor because employees do what they want and have no common sense. One server is never enough on a Saturday night. They do have good food so that's why take out is far more popular than eating at...

Hello, Hello... You're missing out. If you are like me, you may have been driving past this place for years. I will be putting Barrels on my " Must eats list" when in Margate. I hope you feel the same. Very large portion, fresh salads, great appetizers. BYOB, no corking fee. The place is small and very clean. You must try this place, and please let me know what you think. Seating is limited, so call first. I have included some pictures of what we ordered.
