Every single negative review about this store is absolutely accurate. They’ve built a reputation for being judgmental, dismissive, and clearly not caring about their customers—loyal or new. Last summer, my mother accidentally left her cellphone in the store. By the time she realized, they were closed. When she checked “Find My iPhone,” the phone had left the store and was headed toward Cape May. Long story short, my mother drove all the way to Cape May to some restaurant to find that Theresa had taken it. She didn’t make the slightest effort to find out who the phone belonged to, and when we tried calling it, it went straight to voicemail. Meanwhile, she always has an attitude when speaking to her. It was extremely bizarre! Keep in mind, my mother has been a loyal customer for years. Fast forward to yesterday, I went in with my sister who had a gift card. She found a beautiful organza top she loved, but it had visible damage on one side. Each side of the top cinched in with a ribbon. One of the ribbon pulls was damaged. Our sales associate, Pam, was helpful and brought it to the front to show a manager. Then out of nowhere, another associate—Lisa—jumped in uninvited, insisting there was no damage. She wasn’t a manager and clearly didn’t inspect the piece properly. I had to step in and point out the damage directly because of her highfalutin attitude towards the situation. Instead of acknowledging it, she just said oh you can't purchase this and then awkwardly walked off with the shirt… came back… then repeated this several times in a strange, uncomfortable pattern. A manager never actually got involved. Eventually, Pam said she’d try to order another one, but wouldn’t have an answer until Monday. We walked away to avoid Lisa, who was openly rude and dismissive. My sister still wanted the top and was willing to have it tailored. When we returned to purchase it, another associate finally admitted it was a consignment piece—something that should have been disclosed up front when we asked about a possible discount to offset tailoring costs. The entire experience was bizarre, uncomfortable, and completely unprofessional. We were left feeling disregarded and disrespected at every turn. What’s even more frustrating is that we chose to shop here because we believe in supporting local and small businesses. But sadly, this store doesn’t respect its customers enough to deserve that loyalty. Most of the brands they carry can be easily purchased online—without the judgment, chaos, or gaslighting. We won’t be returning. Ever. PS: Pam is the only civilized and professional woman in that shop.

I’m hesitant to write negative reviews about locally owned boutique businesses but the bad experience I had at Knit Wit has sat with me for several days. The selection here is great! But the poor reviews of customer service are well earned. It’s an uncomfortable shopping experience, with people following you around and jumping on you whenever you pick up an item. The associates insisted things looked great when they clearly didn’t fit, and have a generally rude attitude. For example, I bought two items and a few hours later decided one didn’t work for me so headed back to the shop. When I walked in, a woman at the front looked over her glasses at me and said, “oh. it’s you. you’re back.” I smiled and said I changed my mind and wanted to exchange for something else I had tried on. There was no effort among the several women working to help me make sure I left with things I liked. When I checked out—exchanging for something of equal price and buying an additional item for more than $200–the woman who checked me out acted annoyed and like she was doing me a big favor. No one said thank you. I live in NYC and am fully comfortable with a little attitude, but this was next level rude, leaving me wishing I spent my...

If “I’m a Thief” had a feeling, this would be it! The first time I visited Knit Wit, I had this heavy set woman pretty much follow me around and after trying a pair of jeans on she instantly assumed I wasn’t buying them “You can leave them in there and I’ll take care of it.” How about “How did the jeans work out? Did you like them?” I usually spend the summers at the shore so I love shopping local and supporting small businesses. I figured this may have been a fluke/my imagination and decided to go back. My second time, a year later, I get the same person. I tried something on and wanted to keep looking around, but she makes me feel extremely uncomfortable. Again, I just went straight to the register, paid for my items and left. I’m guessing she’s the owner, my receipt said “Andrea.” Knit Wit/Margate.

I’ll take my business...
