If you are passing through Marquette and you aren't stopping to bike, fish, play on the water, or spend some time in their beautiful campgrounds, you MUST stop for a bite at this restaurant. We had 2 different pizzas, 2 different soups, a sandwich, and pie. Everything was amazing but the sandwich and the pie deserve some attention from the national news. The chop sandwich, with their unique sauce, fresh ingredients, and perfect bread was by far the best sandwich I have had in the US. The strawberry rhubarb pie, made fresh in house satisfied a craving I didn't know I had and had never been satisfied by other slices of pies. Do your taste buds a favor and stop in. To add to the amazing food, the quiet little corner store is staffed by tue kindest, most helpful people. Ask them a question and they will give you all the information you need with a smile.

I visited MOPs (Matt's on Presque) to pick up sandwiches for the family. It's located in the old Jean Kay's building. When I arrived I was greeted in a friendly fashion immediately upon entering. The atmosphere was basic but nice, with limited seating. We ordered several Chop sandwiches, a pastrami sandwich, and the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich. We had several customizations that we asked for, and they accommodated them with no concerns. Each sandwich was individually wrapped and labeled so we would know which was which, a very nice touch. They also came with chips and a pickle. When I made it home we dug in and the food was so good that I totally forgot to take pictures. Highly recommend this place!

I had heard this opened recently. Tried it today and it was great. I had the BLT and was glad they let me substitute sourdough for the English muffin. I also tried the pot pie soup and it was served with a delicious pastry. Didn't realize they also are serving smelted pizza too. Nice we have a non corporate sandwich shop open again. Also I was in, ordered and had food in my hands within minutes. Will definitely be coming back. Would love to see them maybe eventually add a philly cheese steak or Chicago beef style sandwich to the menu.

I’ve only eaten here twice. The second time I ordered the same thing that I ordered the first time about a week or so later. The price had nearly doubled. They explained that they made a mistake the first time and had undercharged me. I said, “Wow, I really liked you guys and was happy to see you as an addition to town! But now I don’t think I like you anymore” 😢

Tonight I went to go to collect a DoorDash at MOP. I said, “ I have a DoorDash for so and so.” He said, “No you don’t.” I smiled and said, “Oh has it been cancelled?” Matt smirked and said, “No, you’re not going to be Dashing from this store anymore.” Matt explained to me that he had been waiting for me come in so he could talk to me. He was visibly agitated and red in the face. He said he would not give me the DoorDash because I had berated his staff. I asked him how I had “berated” his staff. And he replied when I told them that I didn’t like the restaurant anymore.

To “berate” is to scold someone critically and angrily. I was disappointed and expressed an opinion. Matt berated me. His anger was visible and palpable (he was red faced, clenched teeth and shaking — very scary) when he informed me, “It’s MY business, I can change MY prices WHENEVER I want. And you want to come here and pay your bills delivering MY FOOD? I’m not giving you anything.” His staff appeared incredibly uncomfortable during this entire encounter. Clearly he has a very bad temper and I would guess they’re often in his wrath.

I’ll be interested to see how soon this business fails if Matt bans someone from his store anytime they express dissatisfaction with his restaurant or customer service.

It’s clear, they don’t really have much, if any customer service training. This could’ve all been solved with a simple resolution when the problem initially occurred. But I suspect that Matt doesn’t give his employees any leeway to make customers happy or to make things right. They could’ve said, “We’re sorry for the mistake … we will give you the same price this time but can’t do it again next time but we’re so glad to see you back so soon!” Or, “I can see how you would be disappointed by that, let me give you $5 off on your next visit with us since you seem to be becoming a regular.” Instead they shrugged and said “sorry.”

It’s unbelievable a business owner would choose to lose business from someone (and many of her family and friends) over a few dollars. I wish MOP the future it deserves...

Super friendly staff. Literally just ate from here for pick up and they packaged everything so nicely. Arrived a bit late and when I got home it was still super warm. Some of the best food I’ve had in the UP since moving here in 2015. You are not going to find a better sandwich anywhere in Marquette, I promise you. The portion sizes are insanely awesome. A place where the inflated prices (it’s like that everywhere) are completely justified in terms of portion and quality. I got the buffalo chicken ranch sandwich and it was the best buffalo chicken in the UP. So tender and juicy like pulled chicken. I also got the tomato basil soup and it is the most flavorful tomato basil I’ve ever had. Not to mention it literally comes with a 1/4 or 1/2 sized toasted grilled cheese as a CROUTON. They are literally throwing in a free sandwich with this item, and it works so harmoniously. My suggestion would be creating combo platters, like a pick 2 type thing where you get half a sandwich with a soup or something. Either way, you are looking at Marquette’s next best food option. It’s a mystery how this place is not packed all the time. I’ll definitely be...

Smelted Pizza x Matt’s on Presque is an absolute gem in Marquette! We’ve ordered takeout twice now, and both times the experience was outstanding. The pizza is incredibly authentic—easily some of the best we’ve had outside of Europe. The crust is perfectly crisp, the ingredients are fresh and full of flavor, and every bite brought back memories of true European-style pizza. Also the sandwiches are a blast!!! Try the vegetarian tuna…really good (chickpeas replaces tuna)!

What really impressed us, beyond the amazing food, was the kindness and warmth of the staff. Everyone we interacted with was so friendly and welcoming. Even when we showed up just five minutes before closing on our second visit, they treated us with nothing but smiles and great service—no rush, no pressure, just genuine hospitality.

Smelted Pizza x Matt’s has quickly become our go-to for high-quality, authentic pizza. Whether you’re local or just passing through Marquette, this spot is an absolute must-try. Highly...
