My husband and I were visiting Marquette for the first time for our wedding anniversary. We love dining at Italian restaurants. I am Italian, raised in Brooklyn NY, and cook mostly every day at home. There were a few Italian options in town (though none had Seafood Pasta). This place seemed to have the best variety. My husband ordered the Minestrone Soup and Chicken Parmesan. I ordered a Caesar salad and Cheese Ravioli with Meat Sauce. We ordered a bottle of dry Red wine as well. Let's break it down:
Atmosphere - loved the cleanliness, decor, and general vibe of the restaurant. It seemed that many locals eat here also - so that says a lot of the place.
Staff - very friendly and helpful (choosing menu items). They also quickly jumped in and helped each other out so all customers were cared for.
Price - it seemed a little pricey, but to be honest - prices were higher here (Marquette Michigan) across the board compared to Indiana.
Food - Minestrone Soup - my husband said it was "ok". Small portion and not very exciting. He said he wouldn't order it again.
Chicken Parmesan - my husband said that it was very good. Good portion of chicken and plenty of pasta. He did mention that he wished he chose meat sauce like I did (doesn't like chunky marinara). He would order this again.
Caesar salad - greens were ok, croutons were good, shavings of Parmesan were rubbery, dressing bland. Wouldn't order it again.
Cheese Ravioli w. Meat sauce - healthy portion of ravioli. The server said it was homemade ravioli (did not have that fresh homemade pasta taste & texture). Ravioli had great flavor. Meat sauce was ok. Not very much meat, but flavor of sauce was good. I would order this again.
Bread - not a fan. It was similar to Texas toast, not Italian bread. I asked for some without the melted garlic butter (way too much on it) and it was better, but I was charged extra for the bread.
Wine - we ordered a spicy Cabernet Savignon. It was delicious!
Overall, we enjoyed our dinner and evening. We would eat here again with a few...
Read moreCame to the UP with my boyfriend for the first time and saw Casa Calabria was a great place to eat in Marquette, so I made a reservation in advance to ensure we would get a table during dinner time. Our reservation was for 6pm, and I will say we did show up slightly in advance (5:50pm) just to make sure we were seated in a timely fashion. When we checked in we spoke with the owner Jimmy who ensured us that we would be seated on time, they were just waiting for some guests to leave which I am completely fine with since we did arrive early. We were given one of the buzzers to wait with and were told it would only be about 5 minutes to be seated. We waited patiently from 5:50pm-6:20pm and watched multiple people be seated ahead of us despite our reservations, so I went up to check on how much longer the wait would be. I went to ask the owner on the wait time since I had checked in with him, but he shooed me away as he was socializing with other patrons at the check in desk and told me to check in with someone else which I found extremely rude. When I checked in with someone else I explained my wait time and she took me to a table that had been empty for some time. I had extremely low expectations for the rest of our service, but was pleasantly surprised by our waitress who was kind, and very attentive (very tall, long blonde hair, and I believe her name was Emma). She is the only reason I am leaving more than one star in this review as the food is only subpar and just below Olive Garden quality, not authentic by any means. I would like to add that at the end of our dinner, the owner pulled up a chair to sit with some patrons and took his mask off while sitting there talking with them... doesn’t seem appropriate as everyone else is expected to wear a mask...
Read moreVery disturbed with how they treat their customers. I have never seen such unprofessionalism in my entire life. I've worked the food industry and know how stressful it can get at times but it never resulted into poor customer service and poor management skills. Whoever is running this place needs to take some business and hospitality classes. I've never been so disgusted in my life. Swearing, belittling, name calling, and flat out disrespecting your customers is never okay. After witnessing this I will never eat here ever again and I will tell people not to either. I'm all about supporting local businesses but I would never support this business ever again. Your staff needs anger management and learn how to be professional. I've literally had people throw things at me in customer service and never lost my cool, never yelled at them, didn't belittle them or call them names. I've personally had bad reviews written about me but I never once retaliated or even responded to thrm. Sometimes you just can't please some one no matter what. but, to see how your staff reacts to a bad review was jaw dropping. So immature and unprofessional. To call a customer a fat b*h, swearing at them, and being purely disrespectful on social media was so disturbing and sickening. Being a bully is not okay. And that's exactly what he was. You should be ashamed of yourself Jimmy Johnson! The best thing for this business is to get rid of this guy. He doesn't know a thing about hospitality or basic customer service skills. Hope your business does the right thing and make it right with the customer. After all these customers make your business. without customers you wouldn't have a business at all. Word of mouth does a lot for a business and this kind of unprofessionalism...
