The Garage on King — Restaurant in Martinsburg

Day trip anyone? If that’s a YES then I got a food hall that not too far away. I took the flight (I drove) out to West Virginia with my very special guest @cousinkim_ & @danigirl_living !! Let’s GO!! . Where I am: @thegarageonking . Location Reviewed: 419 West King St., Martinsburg West Virginia . Vendors (We visited): @gringogordowv Their Empanadas ($4.06 each). Their Chicken…LIKE THAT!! Flavorful!! Their Black Bean…DELICIOUS. Good ingredients, mild flavor. Their Brisket…DECENT. Dry, with little flavor. Their Guava-$5.23…LIKE THAT!! Sweet but cheesy!

@lunacerealbar Their Giant Chocolate Chip & S’mores Cookies, & Brownie ($5.50 each). STAMP!! Sweet, gooey, goodness!! Their Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cupcakes…DELICIOUS. Sweet…good. Their Cinnamon Toast Crunch, & Oreo Cereal Shakes ($10 each). STAMP!! Thick, cold, & tasty!!

@new_school_cafe_wv Their Shorty Melt (with Prime Rib, provolone, house made chips, & a pickle $16). STAMP!! Meaty, cheesy, & smooth cheese!! Their Big Cheese (grilled cheese sandwich $10). DELICIOUS. I wish the cheese melted more. Their Fish Sandwich (with a slaw, chips, & tartar sauce $15). DECENT. Too mushy for me, but Kim & Dani liked it.

@thebayounolawv Their Sausage Burger ($7). DECENT. Parts of it were overly salted. Their Shrimp Etouffee ($12). DECENT. This was a tad bit overcooked. Their Walter’s Creole Gumbo ($12). DELICIOUS. Meaty, mild, ok. Their Beignets (N.O. styled donuts $10). DELICIOUS. Dense, but good.

@ogkitchen2019 Their Steak n Cheese (with greens, & Black Eyed Peas $13.75). DECENT. A tad salty, but I’d give them another shot. The Greens…LIKE THAT!! Flavorful!! The Black Eyed Peas…DECENT. They were ok.

Their Turkey Burger (with fries, & cornbread $13.75). DELICIOUS. Thick, and satisfying.

Their Meatballs ($7.50). STAMP!! Perfect smoky seasoning!!

Their Fried Fish (with Mac n cheese, & Mumbo sauce $15.75). STAMP!! Crispy meaty fresh fish, with tasty Mumbo. The Mac n Cheese was DECENT.

@mountaineer_meat_smokers Their Supreme Flatbraed Pizza ($15). DELICIOUS. Basic but good. . Online Navigation: Easy. . Customer Service: The spots we didn’t go to, weren’t welcoming. . Parking: DECENT. . Recommendations: Check the whole Hall out!! . Music:YouTube-Backyard Band Sauce Pocket

Have to say how extremely disappointed we were with our visit. Parking was as expected, had to circle the block multiple times before finding street parking.

I paid $47 for three kids meals and nachos from Mountaineer Meat Smokers. I received a text saying our food was ready and went up to the counter. Had to wait in line behind five other people who were ordering to pick up our food. There should be a second person working the counter for pick up orders. Your food is just sitting there as you wait in line behind people ordering.

The barbecue sauces are right next to the cash register but there’s nowhere to set your food down to be able to put it on your food. They have teeny tiny open cups for you to put sauce in which is a pain to carry.

We were then given three tokens to take to the café to pick up our drinks. Had to wait in line for another 15 minutes behind people who were ordering coffee drinks just to pick up our fountain sodas. They were out of ice so I had to wait to the side. Waited another five minutes before having to remind the staff member that I was still waiting for my drinks. Why can’t they just give you a cup and you fill it yourself? Just a bad system.

The meat temperature is lukewarm, not hot and fresh tasting. Feels like it’s a few days old and has been refrigerated and lightly warmed up. The serving size of meat on the kid’s roll was absolutely disgraceful, maybe 1/8th cup of chicken?

Needless to say, we will not be coming back and will not encourage others to come...

Love the concept!

Pro: Food is really good and fairly priced with tons of choices.

Con: Ordering is a little chaotic.

1. Signs at front door directs customers to sit and order from app. I had to ask if cash was accepted.
2. Cash is accepted at the individual establishments.
3. Inevitably everyone starts lining up at each establishment ordering using cash and CC.

Improvements: Have an app and a central ordering station. People can choose to either order from the app at their table or utilize the central ordering station.

This will allow for the individual establishments to concentrate solely on preparing food and not having to worry about taking orders and handling money. Speeds up service!

The central ordering station will also allow for easier transactions of food orders from separate establishments to be ordered at the same time on the same ticket - offering a similar app experience.

The central ordering station could also display all menus which makes it easier to see everything being offered rather than navigating through several screens on the app.

Automated speaker number calling system when order is ready along with monitor at each establishment showing the number being called when food is ready for pickup - very helpful for when orders are across several different establishments.

HMart in Fredrick has a very similar food hall concept utilizing a central ordering system. They have it down to a science and it flows very well. Worth giving...
