I was in the area biking the Cross Island Trail and I was researching places to eat beforehand for after my bikeride. I found Amalfi, and here's what I thought:
Do not let this place fool you: yes, it looks like a house initially. It's actually a delicant, fine little Italian gem right down the road from the bay. Everything about this place caught my attention in a positive way. The interior is beautiful, very neat and very clean. The music is very fitting and serronating. The presentation is astonishing, both in regards to the food and drink and the table itself. The service is excellent! My server was attentive and interactive, I wish I knew what her name was. The food runner and I shared a nice conversation about Bowie Baysox baseball!
The food itself is out of this world and very authentic Italian if you ask me. The bread was warm and served with a very nice garlic, EVOO, and balsamic mix. That's the way I believe that oil and vinegar should be served with bread at Italian restaurants,so I definitely enjoyed it! I enjoyed my fried calamari appetizer. For a single person, it was a perfect snack portion. The calamari was bite size, gently crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. A good marinara sauce accompanied for diping, and I wonder what the white sauce was that accompanied it. The paccheri allo scoglio was hands down one of the best seafood dishes I've ever had! A great mix of seafood accompanied insanely good pasta! The texture and taste of the paccheri pasta, I knew it was homemade before I had a chance to ask. I'd do anything to take home a handful of that and enjoy for myself. For dessert, I took down a cup of vanilla and chocolate gelato. Wow, was that a perfect way to end my first trip to Amalfi! It was sweet and flavorful.
If you have a chance, please please PLEASE visit Amalfi Coast Italian and Wine Bar. If you're ever in the mood for legit Italian cuisine in a relaxed atmosphere, give this place a visit. I am very excited for my next visit. When it will be, I am not sure. I am actually very sad that it's an hour and 20 minutes from where I live. Whenever I'm around Stevensville again, I'll be back at...
Read moreCute little bistro on the Eastern Shore with limited parking in the rear. We came here during the week for lunch so the bartender, Taylor, was by herself to take care of tables.
Decor is dressy but casual. We sat at the small bar and were comfortable. The bar is clean but the kitchen door is located behind the bar and there's just a smattering of wires and such around that makes the bar look messy.
We started off with a pair of drinks. My wife had the Day Owl rosé while I had the Strawberry Fields cocktail (staff favorite). The Rosé was nice but the star was the cocktail. It was sweet with a tart finish making it a perfect refreshing summertime drink.
From there we had the prosciutto and melon app which was nice though the melon wasn't very sweet. For our mains, we each had the risotto di Manzo (another staff favorite) because it just sounded good...and tasted even better. The risotto was perfect, no hard bits and creamy. The mignon tips were tender and done at the right temperature. We both inhaled the platter and left an almost clean plate behind.
To finish, we had one of the seasonal cheesecakes from the store across the street. It was a raspberry cheesecake but it wasn't anything special. We were expecting actual raspberries or a compote but what we got was standard NY style cheesecake with a raspberry flavored smear along the top. We ate it but we wouldn't get it again much less visit the purveyor across the street.
What made the experience that much more enjoyable was the bartender, Taylor, and the host/food runner/prom suit extraordinaire...damn, I forget his name. They both were a delight, talkative and cheerful despite being obviously overworked.
I think the bill came to about $110-$120 with tax and tip included. My wife already threw out the receipt and I'm not going recycle bin diving for it. Anyway, thats a bit pricey for lunch but it was definitely worth it! We'll certainly be back to try...
Read moreAmalfi Coast is always a favorite of mine. I would personally say that it is the best Italian food that you can get on Kent Island. From the food to the service, everything is fantastic.
My party dined in on a Thursday evening and we were seated immediately. Our server for the night was Kate who was very personable and attentive throughout the entire dining experience. When it came time to order our main course, my party had some questions about the menu which Kate was happy to answer. She was very knowledgeable on the menu and always had a smile.
I ordered a Fettuccine Bolognese that was plated very nicely. It had a rich, meat sauce that was perfect for the dish. Everything blended together nicely, with nothing being overly strong. The portion-size was large, having plenty to take home.
The atmosphere is nice for what it is, giving an Italian feel to the restaurant. However, the table we were seated at was a four-top and despite my party only having three guests, it did feel a bit cramped for table space. The lighting is nice with plenty of natural light coming in from the large windows overlooking the street. The architecture is okay but felt very commercial. What was meant to be accented pencil tiles on the wall were just painted yellow wood trim that was very large for its purpose.
Overall, the dining experience was fantastic and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great service and expectational...
