We have visited Bad Monkey many times since it first opened in 2019. We always receive excellent service, particularly from Stephanie, Jake, and Chelsea. 5 stars to all of the employees.
I am also writing in response to Alma Mtz‘s review. I can't believe that a woman with children, as she mentioned in her review, would take the time to call out a 16-year-old employee who just started training at Bad Monkey. The 16-year-old in the pink hoodie with brown hair and the eye lashes she mentioned is also Hispanic. She even looks younger than 16, something a mother who got such a detailed look at should have noticed. Alma Mtz claimed that this training hostess employee was racist towards Hispanics, which is absurd since the employee, is also Hispanic. I know this because the hostess is my daughter.
Some of Alma Mtz’s other reviews have the same tone about other establishments being racist towards hispanics too. Makes you wonder if she thinks every interaction that does not go her way is racist.
My daughter is a shy, quiet, near straight-A student who was excited to start her first job in a restaurant. She is very soft-spoken. We thought this job would help bring out her confidence and voice. This was her training shift, and she said that she did greet you when you came in, but you must not have heard her. The “rudeness” was in fact shyness. Instead of addressing the issue with a manager, you chose to publicly criticize a 16 year old in your review, like a true keyboard warrior - coward would do. I only hope you didn’t focus your negatively towards her in front of your kids too, teaching them the wrong way to handle a situation.
When Alma's children start working their first job, hopefully they don’t encounter someone as harsh as her. My daughter quit due to...
Read moreThis is a favorite place to go when we go out for breakfast - but it is not an everytime place when we go out, if that makes sense.
Handicapped parking is extremely limited, and the traffic is a one-way situation, making it a little challenging to help out those with limited mobility. Also note - the dining area is upstairs only, but they have an elevator to help those who are not capable of taking the stairs.
We like the atmosphere and it is even better when the outdoor seating is available. Small place, so yes, you will wait... come prepared for that. The servers are friendly, and we've generally been served quickly when we get seated. When busy, you will likely wait between 30 to 45 minutes. While you are waiting, you can check out the gift store. That is excellent and takes care of your OC souvenir needs. 😊 The breakfast menu hasn't changed in the 3 years or so that we've been going there, and they have a decent selection. Bananas Foster Crepes are really good. We usually get an order to split. The potatoes are deep fried (at a guess) and are seasoned with old bay (again, I'm guessing). That said, if you like seasoned potatoes, these will be your jam. I'm not in love with them, but there is usually so much other food, I don't get around to them anyway. The bread is "homemade," which is good in theory, but I would honestly prefer regular bread or the option of regular bread. They serve monkey bread when you sit down (warm dough balls with cinnamon sugar) - yum. For the most part, we've never had a bad food experience here, but definitely look at the menu before you go. Some pickier eaters might not love...
Read moreFirst time going here and would definitely come back! On a Monday at around 6:45pm, the wait for 2 people was about 15 mins (we did not have a preference for inside or outdoors seating btw). And staff were very friendly. Our waitress Megan was amazing - so kind, attentive and gave delicious drink recommendations. We ordered the Monkey Punch (sweet, fruity, and strong rum punch) and an Allagash White beer. Cocktails are $10.50, great pricing to me especially considering location! We ordered the Fish tacos and The Hitman sub with onion rings and they were really delicious. Everything was bursting with flavor and not overly salty. We especially loved the tartar sauce for the tacos and the dipping sauce for the onion rings (reminded me of ketchupy mayo). We unfortunately waited a long time for the food to arrive, like 45 mins - but luckily we were in no rush. The staff did seem busy but there was good music and a nice atmosphere. Megan kept swinging by to give wait updates and apologize and then finally offered us each drinks on the house! I've never had such genuine and friendly service before. And at the end when the bill came, we were pleasantly surprised at the total 😊 Great prices, great food and drinks, and GREATEST service. Really wanna emphasize that Megan truly went above and beyond and made this experience unforgettable! We will definitely be recommending this place to everyone and be coming back here whenever we visit OC. (And they have a good happy hour that we'd wanna stop by for...
