When I first tried this establishment I was blown away…and I gave a glowing five star review. Unfortunately, every time I’ve been back since it’s been a worse and worse experience and honestly, I doubt I’ll be going back anytime soon. I couldn’t in good conscious leave up my five star review and show photos of the delicious meal I experienced originally because it hasn’t happened since! The next visit we waited and waited for our meals and then received undercooked omelettes with basically raw ingredients inside! We were so hungry we did our best to eat it but it was also flavorless. So very disappointing from the first experience when I had enjoyed an item I have not seen on the menus since (shrimp & grits). Since it was so busy that day I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and consider it an off day. My daughter was visiting and I decided to take her because she loves to try new places and I hoped that I had just experienced an off day. This time we decided to go a bit earlier hoping it wouldn’t be quite so busy and we would receive better service & food. Again the menu wasn’t that impressive there wasn’t as many selections as the first time we visited. So once again we decided to try omelettes. There were only two other table with people and they still managed to get my daughters order wrong. :-( The food was tasteless and the service, well let’s just say we ended up being there for quite awhile talking since she was visiting from out of town and in that time no one came by to check how our meal was (so we didn’t have the opportunity to let them know the order was incorrect) and no one ever refilled our waters or coffee. We ended up not eating our entire meal because honestly it just wasn’t that good and we figured we could doctor up the leftovers at home and reheat. However, with no one ever checking on us again I finally decided to go to up and request boxes to go. Let me also say, they were no short staffed….there were three employees in a huddle with their backs to the customers just talking. So incredibly disappointing!! I had high hopes for this establishment after the terrific first impression but if this continues I don’t see how they will last. We definitely won’t be going back anytime soon. So it’s back to Dream Weaver and I guess IHOP?? for breakfast in...
Read moreBulrushes - Breakfast & Lunch Cafe is a revelation for the senses. From the moment I walked in, the aroma of slow-smoked brisket and freshly baked bread enveloped me, instantly awakening my appetite. The cashier and waitress, with their engaging and professionally charismatic presence, set the stage for an extraordinary meal.
The Brisket Bomb arrived, its spices releasing a tantalizing fragrance that hinted at deep, smoky complexity. With each bite, the brisket’s peppery crust and subtle sweetness danced across my palate, while the tender meat practically melted at the touch of my tongue. The Lasagna Special was a visual feast—layers of golden cheese and vibrant sauce that promised comfort. The first forkful delivered a harmonious blend of herbs and rich tomato, the flavors lingering and evolving long after the bite.
The Brisket Smash Burger was a sensory masterpiece. The patty, crowned with smoked bacon crumbles, grilled onions, and American cheese, was a riot of textures and tastes. The smokiness of the bacon and brisket mingled with the sweetness of the onions and the creamy tang of melted cheese, creating a flavor symphony that resonated with every chew. The onion rings added a satisfying crunch, their golden crust shattering with each bite.
Every sense was engaged: the sight of beautifully plated dishes, the sound of a lively café, the touch of crisp onion rings and pillowy buns, the smell of expertly blended spices, and above all, the taste —a crescendo of savory, sweet, and smoky notes that lingered long after the meal ended. Bulrushes doesn’t just serve food; it orchestrates a full sensory experience that elevates breakfast and lunch to...
Read moreWent during a breakfast rush on a Sunday after church and had a bit of a wait, but since my husband and I were on a treat of a date with no kids, we didn't mind much. I got the early riser breakfast with sunny side eggs, scrapple, and potatoes and it was all delicious. My husband got a ham and cheese omlette which I didn't ask his opinion of, but neither of us left any food on our plates. He said the potatoes were really salty but I really enjoyed the flavors and didn't agree.
Since it was very busy, it was LOUD. And I can't imagine fitting my 6-person family at any of the tables there, pushed together or not. If you have a large party, you're probably better off ordering to-go than squeezing your group anywhere in the joint (especially if the majority of your party is under 8-years-old like mine 😅).
Service was courteous and appropriate for the type of restaurant. Think Panera Bread where you order and seat yourself but one step further because they bring you your food and bus your dishes away from your table when you're done.
I don't know why reviewers are complaining about tipping because it's still more than fast food where they take your order and you have to go to the counter to get it yourself and clean your own area. Plus it's clear that tipping is entirely optional and not expected if you are not inclined to leave...
