2023 review - I got some chicken tenders here and they are just ok. Tenders were ok with the sauce helping me chew it down. A lot of the chicken shops need to start working on the basics and honing their craft. This way I can go to the best rather than a catch all. Great examples is raising canes. Also unsure if this establishment is CM chicken or pecks chicken. They do Korean fried chicken and Nashville chicken. How can you be great at both? Techniques are vastly different and it doesn't appear that they have the capability to scale to this point. I get Korean vibes with all the Korean liquor but Nashville chicken just confuses me. 2018 review - I heard about the one in DC which has great ratings. So I figured I'd give it a shot and drive relatively 20 minutes to come here and get some fried chicken. I got the spicy chicken and the soy garlic chicken.
Spicy chicken - 10 pieces of spicy chicken winglets for 11.99. Coming from a person that has worked in the carryout industry for a significant period of time, the chicken is flat-out expensive. There is only two ways for this chicken to be priced like this. The first method would be if the chicken was the bomb and the second method being if they hooked you up with a lot of food. They did not hook me up with a lot of food and the chicken was not the bomb. I'm not sure if they try to manipulate the spice in order to cater to the local area but it tasted like a honey hot sauce type of spice. Don't get me wrong, it's spicy but it's not the spice that I'm expecting for a Korean Fried Chicken.
Soy garlic - this was more of a redeeming Factor for the store. It was sweet yet slightly Tangy and had an overall good umami into the chicken. This was expected as it's a soy garlic which is hard to mess up. Like the spicy chicken, the price is ridiculous and not...
Read moreI've been waiting for this place to open since last year so I was eager to try it. I read earlier reviews about long wait times so I was already expecting this. I went in and placed my ordered and the front staff did let me know ahead of time it will take about 45 minutes before my food is ready but they asked me to write my number down and then give me a call once the food was available. I stopped over to one of the supermarkets nearby to do some grocery shopping before I went to get my food. After I finished my shopping, I noticed I had a voicemail so I missed the call. When I walked back in to get my food, they told me they were ready to give me a second call since I didn't get my food yet (It's only been 10 minutes since they first tried btw). Long story short, staff was nice and very friendly.
Now on to the important part, food was delicious. Soy garlic fried chicken never disappoints no matter where you go. I also ordered the Snow White Chicken which was basically their original fried chicken but with onions and a white sauce. Since I did take-hour, they put the onions and sauce on the side. I was actually worried my chicken would be soggy when I got back home (I live 30 miles away from Ellicott City) but it was still crispy! Due to COVID, dine-in was limited to two tables so I only wish I could experience the Snow White Chicken instead of the...
Read moreWe've gotten food here twice and both times it was a good experience!
We've tried the snowcap chicken, which is fantastic if you love onions (I do!). It has like an "onion coleslaw" on top. The cool crunchy slaw pairs really well with the hot chicken. This one is my favorite for sure. When you order it to go, the onions and sauce come separately in side containers.
The curry chicken has less sauce, but it wasn't like an Indian curry. It's like a sticky sauce that has a ton of curry seasoning in it. It has a little bit of spiciness to it but it isn't too hot. If you can handle a little bit of spice you'll be okay, but if you don't like any heat at all I'd skip it. It's a little sweet I'd say.
The spicy garlic is spicy! And I love heat. It is sweet and garlicy and spicy and really good. You've really got to be in the mood for a lot of spice though!
We always get the tenders (I am squeamish and don't like bones in my food) and I feel like I get a good amount to eat. The portions we've gotten have been sauced well (the curry had less sauce on it but I expected that) like to the point sauce was leaking out our containers.
We've only grabbed carry out but service has been fine. I've also been to the Germantown CM location and thought the food was pretty much the same there! We'll keep stopping by for our fried...
