This evening, my husband, granddaughter, and I chose to dine at the LongHorn Steakhouse located in Waldorf. Unfortunately, what should have been a pleasant dining experience turned into one marked by disappointment, frustration, and what I perceived to be clear racial bias. Upon arrival, my husband promptly added our name to the waitlist. While we were waiting to be seated, two other parties arrived after us—one was a Spanish-speaking group of eight, and the other was a party of two white women. About five minutes later, I observed the hostess, Alisa, seat the group of eight, despite them arriving after we did. I chose to remain patient and said nothing at that moment.
However, shortly after, Alisa proceeded to call the party of two white women—again, individuals who arrived after us. One of the women from that party even turned to my husband and me and said, “You all need to go to the desk, because you were definitely here first.”
I then approached Alisa and politely informed her that we had arrived before the other parties and should have been seated next. Her response was shockingly unprofessional and dismissive. She responded with a curt “Okay, I’ll seat you after,” with no acknowledgment of the mistake. When I expressed that guests should be seated in the order in which they arrive—not based on her personal discretion—she snapped back at me in a rude and condescending tone, asking, “So do you want to be seated or what?”At that point, I asked to speak with a manager. The manager on duty, Tameika, came over, and I explained the situation to her. She was apologetic and acknowledged the hostess’s inappropriate behavior. She offered my family a complimentary appetizer, which I appreciated, but it did not erase the discomfort we felt. As a hard-working African American woman and loyal patron of this establishment, I was deeply hurt and disturbed by the treatment we received. It felt as though my family was disregarded, overlooked, and disrespected because of our race. To make matters worse, once we were finally seated, Alisa failed to offer a kids’ menu for my granddaughter or inquire whether we needed a booster seat or high chair—basic considerations when dining with a young child. The hostess is the first point of contact for your guests and sets the tone for the entire experience. No customer—regardless of race, ethnicity, or background—should ever be made to feel invisible or inferior. I was so upset by the incident that I couldn’t even finish my meal and ended up packing it to-go.I hope this message is received with the seriousness it deserves. I share this not just for myself, but in hopes that steps will be taken to ensure that no other customer endures the same treatment we...
Read moreMy first time was To Go. It was a busy weekend evening. I had a young, friendly and eager gal who helped me. She told me about the App, getting points, free appetizers etc. Food was good, came at a reasonable speed and I would attribute the “thumbs up” to that employee who took my order. Sadly twice now the service has been “White’s need not order”; Today my husband and I went in during a very slow time. Most of the tables empty, maybe 1/2 dozen people all black except one guy sitting with two black guys. I am biracial (neither black)and my husband is 6’5” French Irish. We were seated by a very professional and sweet gal (Black). Our Waiter came over within 10 minutes of being seated, slow for how slow they were, but not terrible we were gabbing. When he came over he did not greet us, did not smile answered my questions with as few words and syllables as possible. We ordered our drinks, an appetizer and then spoke for 20-30 about what to order when he said “why don’t I come back”, we said sure. He went to the other tables, brought food, drinks, spoke, laughed, spoke with employees. We sat there for 25 minutes. We never got our drinks. In fact he looked RIGHT AT ME, WENT AWAY AND DIDN’T come back. I told my husband if we can’t get drinks, what’s getting food going to be like. In the 7 years we have lived in S MD Waldorf has changed immensely. As DC has become more high brow, those displaced residents have been moved to Waldorf and so has the entitlement, resentment and reverse discrimination. This is the second time in Waldorf we have not been served in 7 years VS NEVER HAVING EXPERIENCED THAT IN OUR 50 YEARS PRIOR living and visiting 20 States in our great Country. I am very sad for the Black American’s who live in the DMV having personally experienced racism(aside from here in DMV) I know how painful it is, as such I would NEVER perpetrate racism against another person. I think anyone who does is a disgrace. I look forward to He who Judges all having the last word with them, and showing them no mercy. As a consumer I have a lot of choices, and frankly I simply choose to limit going into Waldorf whenever possible knowing that too many blacks have a negative agenda as they live, work and go out in Waldorf and S. MD. It gives me no pleasure to write anything about racism occurring, but hear me now racism of ANY KIND IS WRONG AND MORALLY WRONG, AND BLACKS HAVE NO RIGHT, NO MORAL HGH GROUND TO BE UNKIND TO ANOTHER HUMAN BEING FOR ANY REASON, LEAST OF ALL BECAUSE OF...
Read moreUpdate#4 It must be so difficult to find servers and restaurant staff. Today was the 2nd time I've been to my favorite restaurant, Longhorn... and was disappointed. The service was SLOW AND INATTENTIVE. I literally had to stop whomever was passing for a drink and a to go container. 2nd time, my baked sweet potato was literally too hard to cut. The kitchen must have known this before plating. My salmon was ok. Not the usual seasond, delicious meal I've come to expect. Saddens me that this very busy restaurant is struggling. Several tables were complaining today. 4/13/25. The Manager was trying as were the servers, but they failed, in my opinion. Even the floor was dirty with scattered crumbs, fries, and paper. Not a good look today. We were told that several folks had called out....it definitely showed!
Update #3 Had dinner today. Service very good. Food good. Overall good experience. UPDATE #2 Have had dinner a couple of time since the awful experience before and was completely satisfied. Great service and good quality food. Tonight we were at the Walforf location and enjoyed our meal and experience.
UPDATE LONGHORN reached out and gave us a gift card to try a meal on them. Nice gesture!!! Thanks much!!
My first awful experience at Longhorn in Waldorf. Our meals were cold, and service was subpar!! The Mgr did refund the meals, but I was totally disappointed. This is my go-to place. The restaurant was not really busy. Service sucked. Our wings were dropped off with no appetizer plates. I asked the woman who dropped the wings for 2 plates, and she walked off and never returned. Several times, she looked at our table directly, totally disregarding that we had no plates. We finally flagged down the person serving us - he was also serving the bar. He said, "Oh... I'll get u plates and bread." About 12 minutes later, he shows with plates and bread. He NEVER returned to the table the entire time we were there. I finally flagged down he manager, who was empathetic, but by then, I was done. We usually dine here 3-4 times a month, not including take out. Totally...
