Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream is definitely worth stopping by to try one of her soft-serve ice cream swirls in a freshly-made Taiyaki cone. The Washington Post recently featured the matcha and vanilla swirl as an area-best. I ordered the vanilla and chocolate soft-serve swirl ice cream in the Taiyaki cone. I had to wait a few minutes, which was fine because I was able to taste the Mimi’s Handmade and hand packed, mango sorbetto. It was DELICIOUS! I wanted to try the lychee sorbetto, but it was unfortunately sold-out, so I’ll have to go back another time. Mimi’s flavors range from Matcha to Manuka Honey with Jasmine Tea. I think there’s a lychee soft-serve on the menu from time to time. If so, I look forward to tasting it. Given how good the mango sorbetto tasted, I am certain that the lychee sorbetto is fantastic.

Having both Italian and German grandmothers, they inherited the secret family recipes from many generations including the most delicious desserts. They can still taste Nona Concetta’s hand cranked gelato and Oma Annamarie’s Bavarian creamy custards and sweets. Over the last 30 years, they have worked extensively in Asia allowing me to explore the wonderful tastes and flavors of the rich cuisines of Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, China, Hong Kong, and Korea. Coming home from my trips, Alexandra, Mimi and they would try all new recipes from their trips, exploring sweet Thai basil, azuki beans, black sesame, ube, jackfruit, lychee and so many others yet to be So, whether you’re a little kid or a ā€œforeverā€ kid (parents in hiding!), enjoy one of America’s oldest and favorite eating traditions. Cute new spot with some funky and regular flavored ice creams that is owned by a local to Virginia. The worker is a friend of the owner who decided to open these shops after retirement, they are very friendly and welcoming. The place is a lot of fun, as there are so many flavors of ice cream that you will not see anywhere else. The prices are very reasonable. I definitely recommend stopping by and seeing what flavors they have to offer. I did try the vanilla bean and it was more of a French vanilla. It needs more of the vanilla bean flavor, so if that's what you're looking for, don't expect thus to be the correct flavor. There is not much seating here.

October 4th Update:

Tried again. The lemon ice was high fructose corn syrup and xanthan gum with bits of rind, but had a plastic lemon aftertaste that was barely discernible.

I recommend consulting a professional recipe developer or conducting regular taste tests with someone who has culinary expertise. The current product formulation may not be meeting customer expectations, and it may be beneficial to consider partnering with an established brand or reevaluating the production process.

Bottom line - $10.00, 2 trips, not happy. Update to review: The owner reached out, and responded to my review. Out of fairness, I will try again. Once that's done, I'll give another update or will edit my review. I appreciate the opportunity to see if what I experienced was an outlier.

The ice cream was not as good as I had hoped. It was quite expensive for a single scoop, and I could have bought a half-gallon of Bryer's for the same price and enjoyed it more.

Perhaps that particular flavor was not their best.

The texture was like that of hard-chilled, over-churned cafeteria ice milk from a local...

Visited for the first time with my family and though the ice cream was great, the customer service and overall experience was extremely disappointing. Not only were we not greeted at all, but I received my first case of ā€˜GenZ Stare’ - meaning when we approached the display of ice cream I was stared at and met with a stone cold blank expression, not a smile, greeting or acknowledgment of my presence at all. After we ordered, she pointed to the POS system and walked to the back. Again, I was shocked at this since at this point not one word, aside from me ordering our flavors, was exchanged. Overall, it was a very rude experience. If visiting, I would avoid a young woman wearing glasses with brown hair, as you WILL NOT have a pleasant experience if she’s the one taking care of your order. I’m not one to leave negative reviews unless they’re absolutely called for, and in this case it was...

The ice cream was ok, but to be honest, I wasn’t blown away by it. Maybe I didn’t choose the best flavor?

What really caused me concern though, both as a parent and public health nurse, is that when I reached in to grab a spoon at the receptacle by the register, I noticed two small spoons used for samples in there as well. It was clear someone had disposed of their used spoons in it after sampling ice cream. I immediately notified the employee that was ringing us up.

She proceeded to dispose of all of the spoons in the receptacle, went to grab new spoons, and was about to place new spoons into the receptacle without washing it.

I gently told her that it would be a good idea if she washed it before placing clean spoons in it.

To me this is common sense. You don’t put clean spoons in a container that had dirty spoons in it. It’s unsanitary. Perhaps they need additional training in...
