We went for restaurant week as the selections were perfect for everyone in my family. $38 for each person which includes an appetizer, entree and dessert. Heading in we were thinking small portions, test it out but omg were we wrong.
We started off with the standard chips and salsa for the table. The chips were the perfect amount of saltand thicker than others I have had but we all raved about them at the table. There was this giant stone bowl on the table and I had no clue what it was for but of course my wife was well aware...they do table side guacamole. You can have it mild, medium or spicy...we went medium. Best guac I have ever had. Our appetizers would be out soon and like I said...we were thinking small plates.
We had taquitos(served in a salsa Verde), picaditas (like a chorizo tortas) and masita(deep fried pork). The picaditas were my favorite but my wife's masita were so crispy and juicy - seriously all of these are like an entree. We mixed in some guac and salsa on our apps and it was of course a perfect add.
As we were discussing how blown away we were from our apps, our entrees were on the the way. These were Mexican crab cake(which came with 2 sides Mexican rice and papas bravas), puerco al horno(pork shank in poblano mashed potatoes with a mezcal sauce) and pollo acatlan(strips of chicken in heavenly Mexican cream sauce with peppers and onions). My wife's pork shank barely had a dent in it by the end of the meal. That bad boy was a huge portion. I was honestly shocked how much we all liked the Mexican crab cake, judged it before my kid ordered it...I was wrong.
I'd be a terrible critic if I didn't mention that we also got some margaritas that were fabulous. Tamarind and mango, both I would highly recommend. We also had the alcoholic Mexican hot chocolate which I would not recommend with mezcal.
We were so full but we still pushed forward to dessert. Vanilla fried ice cream, flan and churros were on the docket. The clear favorite of the 3 was the flan.
We will definitely be back to try their...
Read moreSol Oaxaca offers a delightful culinary experience that beckons patrons back for more. Our dining journey commenced with a tantalizing plate of loaded nachos featuring tender chicken, a dish that affirmed our high standards for Mexican cuisine. While the nachos were exemplary, a touch more chicken would have elevated them to perfection, yet they still stood as a formidable contender in Harford County's Mexican food battle as I am a lover for Mexican food.
Transitioning to the main course, we indulged in an assortment of tacos showcasing both steak and chicken varieties. Each bite was a symphony of flavors, accentuated by the exquisite guacamole sauce and impeccably fresh pico de gallo. The culinary prowess evident in each dish solidified Sol Oaxaca's reputation for authenticity and excellence.
Beyond the culinary delights, the ambiance at Sol Oaxaca is nothing short of enchanting. The music, just the right volume, adds to the inviting atmosphere, complemented by a spacious bar and tasteful decor throughout the establishment. The option to dine al fresco adds an extra layer of charm to the experience, while the impeccably maintained facilities, including the spotless bathrooms, further enhance the overall dining experience.
However, what truly sets Sol Oaxaca apart is its exceptional customer service. From the moment we stepped through the door, our server, Alex, guided us through the menu with a genuine enthusiasm that mirrored the authenticity of the cuisine. His attentive demeanor and warm hospitality made us feel as though we were cherished guests in a beloved family home, creating an unforgettable dining experience.
In conclusion, our visit to Sol Oaxaca has firmly secured its place on our list of go-to Mexican eateries. With its delectable fare, impeccable service, and inviting ambiance, it's clear that Sol Oaxaca is poised to become a cornerstone of Mexican cuisine in Harford County and beyond. We eagerly anticipate future visits and commend the team for their commitment...
Read moreI hate to write a review like this because I love supporting local businesses.
I showed up with 8 people and all of us are local Harford County business owners. This was a first time for all of us. We tried to tell the manager first about our experience, but to our surprise there was no manager on duty, which made sense as to why the service was terrible. How do you just open and not have a manager on duty? The young waitress who took our complaints (who wasn't even our waitress during the dinner) was nice but she really didn't know what to say or how to handle the situation. She also said none of the restaurant owners were present either.
First, no one greeted us for like 10 to 15 minutes after we sat down and the place was empty. The food was subpar. Places like La Tolteca have way better mexican food for cheaper. Some of the food came out cold. Walking in, it seems they are going for a little more upscale vibe like Mucho Gusto so I expected the same food quality as Mucho Gusto. It definitely wasn't even close. The prices are slightly too high for the type of food they are serving. At least the atmosphere was nice. We also received our entrees before our appetizers. One of my friends ordered fajitas and he received his meat and vegetables first then 5 to 10 minutes later received his fixings and tortillas. I will say I had a couple margaritas and those were good.
The wait staff added their own gratuity and didn't inform us of that. I'm assuming because we had a large table. We would have still tipped because we know how waiters and waitresses make their money and technically most of the above was not their fault but it would've been nice to know before hand so we didn't double tip.
The restaurant owners need to step in and FAST! Its a shame that whatever restaurant occupies this particular commercial space it never works out. Its such a great location in my opinion. This place has potential but definitely...
