Sweet Sweet Kitchen — Restaurant in Maryland

I was very disappointed with my most recent experience here. I called the restaurant at 7:12 p.m. to order a plate of oxtail with jollof rice and cabbage and a plate of oxtail with white rice and plantain. I was told it would take an hour for the food to be ready (which I was fine with), and asked for my name and my phone number with which I complied. After waiting an hour, I called the restaurant and was told that it would take another fifteen minutes for the jollof rice to be done. Again, I was fine with having to wait. I decided to begin my twenty minute commute at the time but did find it weird that I was told they would give me a call but never received one and had to call them myself.

Once I arrived to pick up the food, I was seen by a cashier and told them what I ordered, was rung up, and then I paid, but to my surprise, I was informed that there are no sides (i.e., cabbage and plantain) for whichever reason. Keep in mind, I paid for the food in-person, didn’t receive my food until nearly two hours after ordering, but still was not informed of this until after the transaction already went through. I found their actions to be deceitful and irresponsible and would highly caution consumers before deciding to order to keep in mind that they risk terrible service and dissatisfaction. When I say this is the BEST oxtail and jollof rice I’ve had thus far, I’m not kidding! I’ve had the pleasure of coming here twice to eat. The second time I came, I got the same thing but with cassava leaf and plantains & I can gladly say, everything here is cooked to perfection! The oxtail literally falls right off the bone and has a lot of meat on it. They also put plenty of extra gravy on your rice and plate so everything is juicy and just right! The jollof rice was seasoned amazingly as well as the cassava leaf and they give you huge portions to assure you won’t be hungry afterwards.

I’ve tried a lot of African and Caribbean spots, but this one right here...this one just hits different! The taste is so AUTHENTIC and flavorful, it’s crazy. It doesn’t taste like it was frozen or came out of a plastic bag, you can really tell it was made the same day with all fresh ingredients. The flavor honestly speaks for itself! I feel as if you get the perfect amount of food for the price you pay as they aren’t stingy with the portions at all. I love it here and I will definitely continue to recommend! This is the first time I’ve ever had a complaint about this place but I’m actually that upset. I came in after work because it’s the only place in silver spring open after a certain time. I come here all the time and pay whatever the cost. Tonight I noticed the cashier add a service charge to my order. I’ve never had that happen to me once. I know how that pos system works and that doesn’t happen unless added by the user. When I asked the cashier why that was there, her response was “I don’t know how to use the system, its in there itself” and when I made the comment that “I watched her do it and know how to use that system” proceeded to look at me like I was crazy. I come here all the time, this is the first time such thing has ever happened. I don’t care about the added .94 cents, it’s the fact I was lied to straight to my face and I was gaslighted into making it seem like I’m causing mischief. I was already having a long rough night and that made it more annoying. This experience wasn’t worth the money I spent. I could’ve ubered Taco Bell and been happier. I don’t even have the stomach to eat my food. To whoever worked on Sept. 15th at 1am...
