I have been a customer of Vito's literally since my college years (graduated Franklin high school in '06 you do the rest of the math). And the reason of course is because Vito's is part of Baltimore/Maryland. The two are inseparable, like the clay of the earth and the Chesapeake Bay itself.
Food: I don't know for sure that everything on the menu is 5-star. I don't need to know, because like every regular customer to a place like this, I try one thing, in this case a couple slices of buffalo chicken pizza and I literally never have to try anything else on the menu because it immediately became 'the usual' for me. And let's be clear I have had some of the other pizzas, subs, cannoli's and they're all worthy of becoming 'the usual' for you too.
Atmosphere: I moved away from Maryland in 2015 due to some personal issues and I find myself back as of a couple of months ago. Of course my old haunts have changed a lot, and Vito's itself has literally shifted locations. But you walk in and it feels exactly the same, even if the view out from the window is from a different side of the parking lot.
Service: I walk in and immediately find myself in the middle of a conversation with a gaggle of first timers about what slice to get. When I get to the register one of the Illiano brothers, I'm not sure which one because we're not on a first name basis like that; he takes my order while having an argument on speakerphone with his wife. I remark about the location change and his face immediately lights up as he recognizes me, and interspersed with his 'conversation' with his wife he rings me up and we talk about how things are always different, how he likes my haircut, etc. Within two minutes I've got my slices, nice and crispy and hot out of the oven. Perfection.
Conclusion: I can't imagine a world without this place. It's not like they look anything special, and that's the point. Like any good local establishment that survives the test of time it's the fact that they don't particularly stand out in any particular way, but in a world of Papa John's and Dominos they still exist and persevere and have a line of customers at lunch made up of old regulars and new faces, and that should tell you all you...
Read moreCustomer service via phone was horrible! I called and asked for a cheesesteak sub, and the guy said, Hey man, you need to talk. I said, What do you mean? He said, “You’re not saying anything. What do you want—a whole sub or a half sub—and what do you want on it? That's what I mean." First off, that's rude! If I asked for a sub, your first response should have been “Okay, would you like a whole sub or half, and what would you like on it?" PIZZA WAS HORRIBLE!!!! PIZZA WAS HARDLY CUT I HAD TO USE MY OWN CUTTER! THE PIZZA WAS SO GREASY, I HAD TO SOAK IT UP WITH THREE PAPER TOWELS! THE PIZZA SAUSE WAS SO WATERY THAT IT SOAKED THROUGH THE DOUGH AND MADE IT SOGGY, WHICH WAS IMPOSSIBLE TO EVEN HOLD A SINGLE SLICE TO EAT. WE COULDN'T EVEN PULL APART ONE SLICE WITHOUT THE CHEESE BEING PULLED OFF FROM THE NEXT SLICE! EITHER THE DOUGH IS NOT FULLY COOKED OR THE PIZZA SAUCE IS SO WATERY THAT ITs MAKING THE PIZZA SOGGY. I LIVE RIGHT BEHIND THE SHOPPING CENTER AND I WILL NEVER EAT HERE AGAIN I SHOULD HAVE USED MY CARD INSTEAD OF CASH SO I CAN REFUND THROUGH MY BANK! WE ATE TWO SLICES AND TRASHED THE REST OF...
Read moreUpdated some things for my order from 4/26/24
Food arrived quickly. The fries were supposed to be gravy fries but they sent a bag of regular fries. UPDATE-they don’t offer gravy anymore or onion rings.
We ordered: 14” Chicken bacon ranch pizza- it wasn’t bad, just a little dry. 16” pepperoni pizza- dough was a little tough. Flavor was okay. It wasn’t cut all the way on some pieces.
UPDATE-Chicken caprese pizza used the same chicken nugget tenders cut up. I’d prefer it be white meat chicken like other places do.
Fries- didn’t get the gravy fries we ordered so we ended up with a lot of plain fries. They weren’t really crispy and were kind of dry throughout. UPDATE- fries were a little better this time but not great.
Chicken tenders- I liked these the best. They were just standard white meat chicken tenders. Not processed chicken like a nugget that some places.
Buffalo wings- The skin on the wings was a bit fatty and chewy which I don’t prefer. Asked that they be fried hard/well done but...
