Jonathan's — Restaurant in Matthews

TERRIBLE experience this morning at Jonathan’s. Everything was fine until we went to check out. The total did not seem right, when I reviewed the bill there was so many extra charges that no one told us about. My sister ordered an omelet with no tomatoes, sub olives. There was a $3 charge for that. We ordered a side of salsa. They charged $3 for a side of salsa. Those would have been ok, IF we had been told about it! I ordered the deluxe breakfast which is $8.25 for 2 hotcakes, 2 eggs and bacon. I added chocolate chips. I fully expected to be upcharged for chocolate chips. However, they charged me $15.95!! They claimed I couldn’t add chocolate chips to the deluxe breakfast and I had to pay everything a la carte. So $7.70 for CHOCOLATE CHIPS?!? When I questioned it, the woman working the cash register was extremely rude and kept telling me there’s nothing she can do, she just works there. I asked for the manager and was told his name is Pete and he was in the back cooking the food and wouldn’t come out. She just kept telling me that’s “how it is.” The poor waitress was right there with me and she was confused. She said she just started and didn’t understand either. She was a sweetheart! Her name was Darnell. The woman working the register was condescending and rude. She should NOT be working with the public. After refusing to help me for 10 minutes and holding up the line (which was embarrassing,) they FINALLY begrudgingly gave me a $7 discount. That definitely didn’t make up for the way I was treated. There are so many restaurants to chose from, stay far, far away from the place and go somewhere where they are honest and value...

Jonathan's is a very expensive restaurant. It is a basic family restaurant that is very dated, but decent. Our server was very nice and put in our food the way we ordered it. The desserts are out front as you come in. They are small and not priced. I ordered a piece of chocolate pie that looked like a piece of Sara Lee or Mrs. Calendar's frozen pie. It was cut sloppy and very small. They charged 8.00 for the pie. We had a simple burger and a sandwich along with the pie I ordered. The total bill for this little bit of food was 37.00. When I questioned the bill at the cash register, the clerk was rude and looked it me in a condescending manner. She said we ordered expensive things. How is a simple burger and sandwich expensive items? I have no clue. UPDATE: Ate here again last Saturday. I found a bug adhered to and cooked on top of one of my French fries! The server took the evidence to someone in the kitchen and get this I was ONLY offered MORE FRIES! I thought to my self YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING!!!! That was a BIG HUGE NO THANK YOU!! The server did not adjust the bill saying that's what they offered you know what I mean. Even the cashier attempted to make me pay for the food too until she saw I would not back down on it. I did remain professional. She went to the back and cane out and took off the charge for my food. I will NEVER go back there much to my significant...

Love that they claim to be a family restaurant but are 100% not family friendly. When we first walked in we weren’t greeted with a hi, how are you or hi, table for four. Instead it was her gawking that my baby wasn’t wearing any shoes saying “uhhh you know you’re going to have to carry him the whole time he can’t walk in here with no shoes”. Well considering he can barely walk I wasn’t going to have him walk in the restaurant anyways I replied to her yes, I know. Then our waitress acted super inconvenienced that we had two children with us. But my kids made less noise than the women in the corner running their money counter (they were counting money to bet on the card game they were playing, which I’m pretty sure it’s illegal to gamble in a restaurant but that’s besides the point). I went to take my baby to the restroom to change their diaper, and there was absolutely no changing table and had only one stall with a functioning lock. All the other doors couldn’t lock and anybody could just walk in on you, so I had to leave the restroom and go out to my vehicle to change my babies diaper to then come back in to finish my meal. And prices are ridiculous for a salad just a bowl of lettuce is over $10 want chicken on that salad add $6. Family friendly if everyone in your family is 55+. 10/10 don’t recommend. Save your money and eat at a steak house I promise...
