I went for a late dinner tonight and after not visiting for 6 months, I'm a little disappointed.
The food was good, but not as incredible as it was when we went when I first moved to Greenville. I have eaten at Chun Chun five or six times, but not recently until tonight. The chicken on both the Sesame Chicken and Orange Chicken was unevenly cut, so some of it was cooked but not crisp at all and some smaller pieces were so overcooked the meat was tough. The sauces and the fried rice were a little underseasoned. The fried chicken wings were overfried and not super enjoyable to eat. The fried dumplings were excellent as always.
The service was average. We had to flag the waitstaff down a couple times for drinks, which is fine, but they didn't fill all of our drinks each time, which was odd. The waitstaff was nice and polite, but failed to ask us what size we wanted for our entrees and automatically entered them as large unknown to us until the bill came. She also didn't ask if we wanted to split the bill, which was inconvenient (there was a couple and a friend - we ended up settling it through cash app).
As for atmosphere, the building has quite an echo to it, so when the restaurant's music was playing, it seemed quite loud and it was difficult to converse over it. It also meant other diners were speaking louder than normal too. The decorations are absolutely beautiful, but there is a lot of decor.
Overall, I definitely will be checking back in to see if they continue to decline in quality or if tonight was a fluke. Chun Chun used to be my favorite asian food restaurant in Greenville, and I hope they stay that way. YMMV if you dine...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMust say I had high hopes for this place because of the good reviews. My mom was quite excited to go. We all ordered and oddly enough they brought my husband's soup, then his main entree, then his appetizer to follow all within minutes. So my mom and I were sitting there without our orders. We asked for plates so we could try a little of his appetizer and the manager (owner?) got a bit too excited asking us what we were sharing (I guess this would incur more cost to us). I asked if it was ok to share the appetizer then he left us alone. Next, they brought my entree but said my eggroll would be out "later". This left my mom sitting, waiting. Her entree came out minutes or so later again with promise of her egg roll.... "later". Later finally came and my mom got her egg roll which left me asking the whereabouts of mine. My eggroll came out even more "later". Had to go out of our way to flag waitress for refills. Now for the food. Sorry. Nothing special. I did not like my Mongolian beef. Maybe it's me on that, though. My husband who likes his food pretty plain-jane said his General Tso's chicken didnt have much flavor. He did ask for it to be extra spicy and they did deliver on that so that was nice and one reason I gave 2 stars. My mom seemed to like her lemon chicken but wasn't super enthralled. I think my mom will give take-out a try and see if anything else works for her. At least she will get her food all at once instead of piecemeal...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI am very disappointed. Weāve been coming back to order here for a while now because it was one of the decent one in Greenville. Today, we picked up our food and got seriously disappointed. Everything was super greasy and flavorless. Fried rice tasted like old grease. Egg roll was the same. Crab lagoons were super stale and also smelled like old grease. We took a few bites of each one and tossed everything in the trash can. It was not edibles We are not coming back here again. My search for good Chinese restaurants continues.
RE: restaurant response "I am also curious about how so many mistakes occurred with your order. We use different oils for our fried rice, egg rolls, and crab rangoon, and we have never reused oil for our fried rice. The chef has maintained a regular schedule for changing frying oil since our restaurant opened. Additionally, we do not use āgreaseā to prepare any of the aforementioned items. "
My response is this to above comments. Maybe manager should check if the oil has been changed and if the fried rice (we ordered house fried rice and it was NOT EDIBLE) is made with fresh oil. Crab rangoon was VERY STALE and tasted like it was very old. I saw several other reviews with "VERY GREASY" comments. If you wonder, please periodically check the kitchen for the quality control. I am super disappointed with the response above as if I am making the comments up. I am not...
