Waffle House — Restaurant in Mauldin

I don’t expect a lot from a Waffle house, almost nothing and I love it. I’ve been eating at Waffle House since I was little and have never seen what I saw on 5/3/2025. My brother was visiting and we chose waffle House as our dinner (classic for us) I walked in and said hello to what seemed like the manager who was a younger lady with blonde hair. Wearing a blue button up shirt. I asked her how she was doing several times and she would stare at me, not commenting back with a look of extreme anger on her face. There was no one else in the restaurant. Every table was smeared with syrup and covered and waffles, pancakes, etc. Again, I have very low standards. No one cleaned off a table anfter waiting and I told my brother we had to leave because we were “unable“ to eat there. As we were driving off, I could see the same pissed off lady with the blonde hair, wiping down one table and then leaving to go to the kitchen. It was very passive aggressive. Kids these days right. She had a bad day, but that’s no reason to treat a customer like crap and ruin my dinner. I will never return to the Waffle House in Mauldin. I think this is the first one star I’ve ever given -...

This is the only waffle house I've ever seen that isn't open 24 hours. I dont know when they close, but they open at 7am. Managers have told me they just don't have enough people, but it's been an issue for at least a few months, and it leads me to think they aren't treating staff well enough and aren't paying a decent wage to keep them around. I'm sort of baffled as to why management isn't covering the shifts themselves because it's clearly damaging the brand reputation, and every time I work the early shift I see confused, disappointed people standing outside. We work late nights 30 seconds away and when we arrive at waffle house it’s 2 patrons and they lock the doors. They ignored our questions and gave us no explanation as to why they locked the doors. It’s actually hurtful being in the industry and being treated like trash. The woman in the bonnet acts like she cares nothing about the waffle house experience- just collecting a check. It’s very disappointing. And looking in at her employees looking upset…the culture here definitely needs a change.
