Dave & Buster's McAllen — Restaurant in McAllen

Is this burger worth $15? I don't think so. My dining experience at Dave and Buster's was a huge letdown. The lettuce bun, in particular, was a perplexing choice that didn't work at all. We had chosen this restaurant based on online information about various vegan options, but the reality was quite different. Supposedly, all Dave and Buster's locations should offer a wheat bun without egg or milk, but this particular one did not. This was a disappointment, especially considering the number of people with egg or milk allergies.

What's even more baffling is that they offer two different vegan patties, the Impossible burger and another one, but they lack a suitable bun to complete the burger. Normally, we would have a substantial meal before going to a location with limited vegan options, but due to the promising online information, we didn't. As a result, we were left quite hungry, as the meal provided was far from satisfying. This might have been around 200 calories, while we expected a meal closer to 600-700 calories.

We resorted to ordering two side orders of fries to alleviate our hunger temporarily, but the overall experience was disappointing. I would suggest that this Dave and Buster's location follows what other branches do and offers at least one vegan bun option. That would be greatly appreciated.

Credits: Regarding the pricing, games at Dave and Buster's are quite expensive, ranging from $1.07 to $1.60 per game, depending on the credits purchased. Some games that usually yield decent tickets didn't provide many here. For instance, Skee-Ball only gave a few tickets, around 2 to 5 per game when we played. The best ticket-earning games were the ones where you toss rings onto bottles and some others in that section. On average, we earned about 70 to 80 tickets per 8-credit game.

Tickets: To accumulate enough tickets for a 1,000-ticket prize, it costs around $20 if you're solely focused on the prize. We brought our 16-month-old with us and were determined to leave with a Yoshi. We spent $75 on credits and managed to win a 2,200-ticket prize, which turned out to be a big Pikachu. However, only about half of the games we played awarded tickets, which was a disappointing realization. Many games that typically give tickets didn't do so at this location.

While I'm an avid gamer and have visited many arcades across the country, I found this one to be decent, but the ticket rewards were hit or miss depending on the game. If you're eyeing the Oculus prize at 150,000 tickets, be prepared to spend around $2,000 to win the $500 VR system. Each $100 reward can yield an average of 7,500 tickets if you focus on the big-ticket games, so it's not the most cost-effective choice.

Despite the issues with tickets, everything else about this location was fantastic. Our server was wonderful, despite not knowing the ingredients of most items and the absence of buns. She went out of her way to assist us. We spent hours playing games, even though they are quite overpriced. For a birthday party, it's acceptable.

To Dave and Buster's, if you're going to offer a lettuce bun, please make sure it's substantial enough to replace what should be in the bun...

Finally got to visit this location and was totally excited the first time I came here. The pros are immediately obvious once you step inside. The lights, the sounds, and the smell of food and good looking people. The atmosphere is pretty awesome. But the service and the people are the reason this place lost huge credibility. I was party to a group of 7 with an infant and getting seated was a hassle b/c the most family friendly environment was a closed section that did not have a waiter. Instead of being accommodated, our party had to accommodate the zoning sections that were being waited on which placed us between the bar and the loud games and noise. It altered the mood fast as we were zoned in with the adult drinking crowd and the more abnoxious younger group of teens yelling over the tables. The hostess did not understand the inconvenience and the waitress was a bit dense. When we ordered our children sprite, she tried to charge our tab for a sprite that she brought to the table for the 6 month old infant and the irony is that our waitress was expecting at her young age of what may have been 20. I asked that the salmon I ordered by seasoned or blackened and she had the fish overcooked b/c that's what she thought "blackened" meant. When we complained to management, the manager came over and reeked of potent cigarette smoke. Looking at him associated a jerk from my face of disgust b/c he smelled so bad. When paying our tab, the kids wanted to play games and the prize kiosk told us we had to buy a game card. When looking into the game card, we found that we lost out on a promotion that could have been applied for more credits according to our meal which was simply a promotion never presented to us by our waitress during our meal. This poor service, unfortunately, reflected a repeated experience when we returned with an adult crowd by a different waitress who also lacked know-how and continued to check her cell phone for whatever reason rather than wait on our table. If you're coming to Dave and Busters for the games alone, I think you should have a good time. If your coming for the food, the food seemed average but prepare for ignorance and inexperience from the hostess and waiting staff. It seems safe that you double check on your order and ensure that everything is being written down for clarity sake. I wanted to drink here but I was just too afraid that they would mess up a simple cocktail and I simply avoided it. In my opinion, I believe that if you can survive the poor service, the food might be worth it. Otherwise, Main Event may be more diverse for games accommodating adults...

This is our first time at Dave & Buster's, and it was really good. We were seated right away, but we did get there before the lunch hour rush. The waitress was friendly, took our orders and got the kids' food out first (at our request). She brought us our water while we waited for our drinks. I ordered a Crown apple smashtail which was awesome, it was not too sweet but you could definitely taste the apple in the Crown and the granny smith apple flavor. My husband ordered the wildberry smashtail which was good, but not as good as the apple one. The kids ordered kids' burgers and fries and the pretzel dogs with a snow cone kind of drink that had a lit up cube inside of it which they got to keep. We ordered the chicken quesadilla appetizer which was pretty good with the salsa. It was a little pricy at $70 for the appetizer, the 2 drinks, 3 kids' meals and the 3 kids' drinks. But it was a birthday celebration so not too bad. The game room was even better. Very clean and everything in working order (but I see from other reviews that it's a brand new location). There were classics like Space Invaders and Pac-Man but with huge screens, like 10 ft tall huge, and new games like Mario Kart. We bought one card for $40 which had 250 tokens on it (I think it was 250), and between the 3 kids, it went fast. I don't know how many tokens each game took, but it was obviously more than 1 or 2. It was still a lot of fun. The tickets they won from the games were automatically put on the card, and they quickly got over 800 tickets. We thought that'd get them something good, but no, the good prizes all required a lot of tickets. My son got a kazoo which didn't work, and a sticky, wall crawling spider which didn't work either, so he was sorely disappointed. The candy was full size so it took a lot of tickets, too. But in the end, it's not about the cheap prizes but about how much fun we had playing the games. The women's bathroom was very clean, too; but the music was way too loud. We had to ask the waitress to repeat herself several times, and we couldn't hear each other talk until we sat next to each other. Maybe we're just old, maybe it was too loud, but...
