Ahhh, pizza. The delicious and perfect food. Today I tried a new pizza place and afterward, our server, Heather, asked how things were and if we liked it to please write a review and let others know. I told her I would. So here you go, fellow pizza enthusiasts:
Let me start by saying this - I was born in upstate NY state. FENNEL in the sausage is a must! That being said, after living in the area for over a year, we finally tried Twisted Tomato in McCaysville, Ga. for the first time today. I hate to tell you this (because now the word will spread) but they made a VERY GOOD pie!
I am a thin-crust-with-a bubbled-edge-pizza-pie enthusiast. Upstate NY pies aren't thick and don't drown in cheese... The pizza maker at Twisted Tomato came awfully close to making my version of a perfect pie! (Not sure if she’s from NY state but I say ‘YAYYY’ to her chef skills!!)
The restaurant had just been inundated w/the Blue Ridge Railway train tourists having just descended in town. Luckily we caught the tail-end of the tourists and got our pizza in an efficient time.
The way it works is you walk in, view the menu, order your pizza then go pick a seat. A server brings your pizza to your table. You grab your own napkins/silverware.
The pie we chose was all mushroom w/half pepperoni on one side, half sausage on the other. Their wood stove cooking skills were well practiced: The crust was very delicious and had those ‘yeast’ bubbles around the edges and the pie had just the right amount of ingredients. Not gyp-y, not too much piled on. The sausage was delicious and the mushrooms were fresh - NOT CANNED . The pizza was delivered to our table quickly and with a friendly smile from our server. All this earns Twisted Tomato a' HOORAY'!
I always try the pizza ‘as is’ prepared by the kitchen the first time I try it. If I like the pizza, I then know how to ask them to ‘tweak’ the pizza to my exact liking! My next time at Twisted Pizza (yes, I’m going back AND yes, I’m going to tell my friends about this place) I will ask for the following adjustments to my pizza to accommodate my particular taste: to cook my crust more ‘well done’ and use slightly less sauce and cheese. Other than that, this is a pizza you do NOT want to miss! Please go try the pizza at Twisted Tomato. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for a GREAT first time...
Read moreI had a Meat Lover's Calzone that I enjoyed. The problem with Twisted Tomato is they will not answer their phone to place an order for pick up during the pandemic. To add insult to injury they have online ordering through the Slice app, which is a joke because although Twisted Tomato shows the Meat Lover Calzone on their menu it is not offered on the Slice menu so you can't order it that way either. This is ridiculous customer service, especially as the CoVID-19 virus continues to be a concern. Very disappointing to put it far too politely! *This added after Twisted Tomato commented...You can see that there is no attempt at accountability, and only excuses are offered. We also left a voicemail for Twisted Tomato on Saturday, 01/01/2022 and they didn't have the professional courtesy to call us back. Twisted Tomato doesn't even deserve 1 star. My first job was at a Pizza place and we could run the business on the busiest nights with 3 people without losing a customer and based on that experience I can tell you that this Twisted Tomato location was not short staffed, that's just another excuse and faslehood. We ended up eating at a restaurant near this the McCaysville TT franchise and as we passed Twisted Tomato that afternoon we saw that there were plenty of employees on hand to handle orders and customers responsibly. In addition, the Calzone's have never been offered on the Slice app, and the 'owner's' comment suggests otherwise, which is further evidence that the reply/excuses provided by Twisted Tomato are not based in fact. Follow up 06/14/2025, I went back once for the Meat Lover's Calzone that I enjoyed my first visit and it was sadly much smaller and oddly cost more. They charge $10.00 for a draft beer! Needless to say, we won't be going back here again. It's a shame because this place has so much potential but greed seems to be their priority, and/or is a result of poor managment. The service itself, from the staff that work at the McCaysville location, has been very...
Read moreSTOP! Do not recommend. First off, they have you pay for your dinner & drinks up front with little to no direction, therefore if you plan to tip (FYI we tipped 20% & then I tipped again for my 2nd stale beer), you have to do it before you even know what the service & food will be like, I can assure the food & service are both horribly horrifying. When we came in, we had to ask how things worked, & the girl said you pay first & we will find you. Secondly, not only do you tip before service & food, you don’t even get service, because you have to get your own utensils & drinks, aside from beer. The pay first & we will find you thing is a complete joke, as I waited over 20 mins for a beer (already paid for) & the beer ended up being a glass of warm/stale beer that had been sitting at the bar that was supposedly mine. The food, absolutely disgusting. I took one bite & spit the rest out. We ate maybe 10% of our food as that is all we could stomach, we didn’t even take it to go, we left it sitting on the bar. Also, why do you all have a bar with no bar tender????? This was supposed to be my birthday dinner & I am upset we even got up to get dressed to come there. All I got from eating there, was an upset stomach. Oh, by the way, we didn’t go to Burra Burra because of its horrible reviews so we came here & word is, it’s ran by the same GM, well ain’t that just a surprise. Lastly, your dough is soggy, the chicken in the calzone is OBVIOUSLY frozen not fresh & your beer is stale. How on God’s green earth have yall gotten any good reviews, I am baffled. Happy Birthday to...
