I am a native Texan who has had lots of Mexican food, Tex-Mex, El Salvadorian, Chilean, and this place should be ashamed of themselves. This is the most unauthentic Latino food I've ever tasted. How do you do carne asada and don't put no cumin no chili powder not even salt and pepper. Tasted like they just boil their meat in water and put it on the taco with a bunch of onions and cilantro. The rice looks like they just used yellow food coloring with no flavoring. The refried beans with straight out of the can with no salt or flavoring. Even the El Jarritos in the glass bottle was flat. Everybody giving this place five and four Stars has probably never had good Mexican food and has no idea what to expect. And, to the Hispanic people I seen cooking in the kitchen, you should know better. Your abuelas are probably rolling in her grave knowing this is how you cooking. The food tasted like water. I'm not sure if you're trying to please a certain demographic of people who you think are living in this area. But you will go farther if you try to stick to authentic cooking with savory spices seasonings and for crying out loud put some salt in your food. I ordered 2 carne asada Taco platters and a carne asada salad and it came out to $50 with a couple of drinks. And if you're reading this and you like bland saltless Mexican food that tastes like tap water sprinkled with air, then help yourself. You're business is lucky that I live in Las Vegas because if I opened up a taco truck in the parking lot a Fairfield inn, you guys will be out of...
Read moreSo, we have been driving past this place for so long, waiting for it to open. We decided to pop in tonight as we saw people inside and got lucky as they were doing a soft opening. I got two pulled carnitas tacos and a beer and the wife had the chicken flautas plate and most of my beer... 😉 Both were tasty but I preferred the tacos. The chicken in the flautas needed some seasoning or some little something to elevate them a bit. The chips and salsa was tasty but the chips were made from flour tortillas, I think, and they were thick and a little bit too crunchy, if that is possible. The beer was good too... 🍺 but the tap was not flowing yet so it was a can and chilled glass. The people were super nice but seem to be lacking in experience in setting up and running a restaurant. This is only a guess based on several outside observations. Having said that, I truly hope they get their act together and make this place work as a small, home brew, taco shop is greatly desired in the area. Big Taco is right next door to the US Armed Services recruiting offices on Hardin, just south of 380. We are going to go back soon but giving them some time to find their groove. They seem to have a good solid start so go and support your local...
Read moreWe tried Big Taco for the 1st time this week. I had low expectations when they first built the place because it sounded like a pretty simple taco shack. Then, I read some reviews online suggesting that it was a little more expensive than expected and a better menu. I was excited to try it with my husband for lunch!
First, you need to know that it is a little bit more expensive than your typical lunch place. The taco plate is closer to $14. You get 3, so the portion is good for the price. There are SOOO many options. There were also a ton of seafood options and I was pretty excited about the menu in whole. I got the ceviche plate and my husband got the taco salad with carnitas. They were both really good. I'd recommend both. I ordered the elote and it turned out to be corn on the cob with some cajun seasoning. It was good, but not what I was expecting. They have 2 house-made sauces in bottles, and you HAVE to try the green one. We are definitely going back, but it won't be super frequently only...
