At the suggestion of a friend, I visited this location today at 12 noon as a walk-in for a simple beard outline clean up. I was greeted by two polite, and professional young men - they informed me that the next available appointment was at 1PM with Summer.
I agreed to the appointed time, however, it was explained that in order to hold the time slot I was required to put a "credit card on file" in case I didnt return they would need to charge me for being a no-show. What? I explained I had every intention of returning and was uncomfortable placing a "card on file" for a simple beard outline trim.
Being acutely aware of the pitfalls of saving credit cards online, I needed to know their cybersecurity protocols, how they planned to safeguard customer sensitive proprietary information (credit cards) from bad actors. Where was my card going to be stored? What is the retention period?
Bottom line, if I was unwilling to provide a credit card, they would be unable to save and/or guarantee the 1PM appointment per policy. I was absolutely floored with the policy and their inflexibility though I had given assurances I would indeed return. Not wishing to risk losing the time slot (at this point it is 12:15 PM and I'm still debating the policy), I agree to stay in the shop until the appointed time in order not to lose the time slot.
While I waited, I asked to speak with a manager and/or owner in order to document my concerns. I contacted the owner, Edward Harvey, he was professional and courteous, we spoke about the policy. While I do not agree with it, the proprietor has every right to run his business as he sees fit. That said, Mr. Harvey agreed to make an exception and scheduled the appointment without the requisite card. He offered to comp the beard trim as a make good gesture (not necessary / I paid for the service provided).
Summer did a great job, I was quite pleased and do recommend her. That said, I'm not sure if I will return based on this policy requirement. We walked in excited and weâre greeted with âDo you have an appointment?â My response ânoâ. The girl with red hair said âwe donât have any availabilityâ. Which was totally fine but the delivery was just plain rude! I would have been more than happy to book an appointment for the next day but we werenât even given that option. It felt more like bye get out. I even told my boys letâs go somewhere else. Hoping she would offer us an appointment for tomorrow but clearly that didnât happen.
Customer service is important for every business. I would have also appreciated a âHi Welcome, Unfortunately, today weâre all booked up but would you like to schedule an appointment for tomorrow etcâ (with a smile but got none of that) New Customers are important for any business let alone I have 3 boys that get hair cuts every two weeks.
