When we arrived there were only a group in front of us ordering and a dirty table so really didn’t quite know what to expect. I hassled the gentleman taking our order about the grouper and the redfish and he was able to describe them ( i think it provides info on the dishes on his screen) and I went with the grouper. I thought it best to try something I can’t get at lots of other restaurants and I’m a bit nervous when ordering fish as I don’t care for fishy fish. My husband ordered catfish and added shrimp. We also ordered the hog Wild jalapeño poppers as an appetizer.
The poppers came out pretty quick likely w/in about 5 minutes. They were unique. Fresh jalapeños wrapped with bacon and stuffed with cheddar cheese (I assume) and a shrimp. They seemed to be air fried that way but not certain. The bacon was hard/crispy w/great flavor. They were served with a small cup/side of ranch dressing. They were not too hot (spicy). I actually wasn’t crazy about how hard/crunchy the bacon was but if I could knock 1/2 a star off I would for that, but the flavor made up for it.
The rest of our food came out shortly afterwards, probably w/in another 5 min as we were 1/2 way through our poppers. I had my grouper blackened and the flavor was spot on. Not too salty not overkill on the Cajun seasoning..it seemed just right. I also got garlic butter on the side. The red beans and rice were good with a hint of spicy seasoning and the green beans with buttery and garlicky. My husband also seemed to enjoy his food as we both agreed we want to come back and try some other menu items.
I was very happy with my food and the service and I highly recommend this...
Read moreNice little counter service fish restaurant. Very casual interior.
I had the fried oyster PoBoy. Overall medium. The oysters were over breaded and overcooked a bit, resulting in a very crunchy fried oyster. The sandwich was dressed but heavy on the tartar sauce. So, when eating the overwhelming flavors are crunchy, salad , and tartar sauce. The star of the show should be the oysters, but they were not detectable. I would order with the tartar sauce on the side next time.
Fries were the typical limp vegetable oil fries one gets these days sprinkled with a standard Cajun seasoning you will immediately recognize the smell of from many other Cajun restaurants.
The surprise star were the hush puppies. Slightly sweet, cooked perfectly, delightful morsels of corn meal.
My dinner partner had the grilled rainbow trout with garlic butter sauce. It arrived swimming in delicious butter. The fish was cooked perfectly and was delicious. She had the grilled zucchini and the sautéed spinach as sides and said she enjoyed them and would have them again.
Lastly, a lackluster frozen margarita from a machine. Something is off with, or a poor choice has been made with either the mix, the tequila, or both. It’s not awful, but you might not finish it and won’t want another one.
Overall, I would come again and try some other things. They have a decent selection of fish to grill, and I think the shrimp would definitely be worth trying. Also, they have boiled crabs...
Read moreService is excellent, friendly and helpful. Order at the counter and they bring it to you. Atmosphere is a little cold and sterile without much decor. Rustic wooden tables and metal chairs. I ordered catfish filet and it was some of the best I have had. Cooked perfectly, not overdone and still moist. Breading was tasty. Coleslaw however, was not so good. The cabbage was in HUGE pieces and many tough parts of the cabbage was included. They would be well served to slice it much more thinly. The coleslaw dressing was overpoured from someone's bottle and it would have been nice to have a house made dressing. The french fries have a really tasty spicy salt on them and are very good but they have many rotten black spots. They would be better off to get better grade of potatoes. The hush puppies had a delicious taste but were not cooked in the center and pretty gluey/gummy. Tea and sodas are self serve and they were fine but there was no lemon for the tea. I didn't see sugar either. Overall, this place has a great base (fried catfish) to build on but really needs to fine tune all the details to make it worth a second trip. There are many Louisiana style dishes on the menu that I did not try like jambalaya, etoufee, red beans and po'boys. There were lots of customers this first week. I hope they get up...
