I came here with my husband and a friend. We came about an hour before closing. Honestly, I thought we were going to be pressed for time, but the guy working the front was so kind and never made us feel rushed. Since we had never had Nigerian food before, he explained the whole menu to us. We ordered, then sat to chat as the food was being prepared. The wait time for the food was albeit a little long, but when we received the order, it was obvious EVERYTHING was made to order. The jollaf and plantains were piping hot, and the meat was freshly grilled. He even threw a few freebie suyas in there! The meat was well spiced, but not too spicy. The jollaf was soft but not mushy. The plantains were slightly crisp on the outside and perfectly soft on the inside. We all agreed the chicken suyas were the best. Shrimp second, and beef third - honestly this ranking surprised us because that's the opposite of what we would have expected. The beef suyas were good, but they were a little lean for our taste and reminded us of beef jerky. But I assume the beef was authentically prepared, so no complaints there. The guy manning the front was also our waiter, and he was very kind to us. Upon checking out, I wanted to try one of the drinks, and he recommended a new tamarind juice drink they had. It was so new they hadn't had a chance to add labels. We trusted his recommendation, and the drink was AMAZING. We should have gotten it sooner, as it would have paired so well with our meal. Overall, the service was phenomenal and the food was the best I've had in a long while (it felt home-cooked and special, since it's not everyday I drive by a Nigerian...
Read moreI’ll try and be brief, though, my reviews tend to be a little lengthy. Many years ago when I first ate at Suya Hut I thought this place was quite remarkable. Now I think they’re just okay. My suspicion is that they probably started cutting corners to gain more profit.
One example would be the quality of the shrimp Suya that I got from them a couple days ago. Shrimp seem smaller than I remember, and they taste and look like frozen shrimps. Wasn’t that pleased, especially since you charge more for the shrimp. Also, last couple times the flavor seemed to be kind of lacking with the beef Suya. I recall having some beef Suya at a naija wedding not too long ago and it just had much more flavor. So not to say that it no longer taste good at Suya hut but to me it used to taste better.
Overall I’m rooting for this place. I know how hard Nigerians (my dads from there) so I know a lot of effort has gone into establishing this place, but let’s not turn our backs on quality. I consider my self to be a food connoisseur so I’m a little stricter than most but I think for now my review is fair. It’s never to late though, to improve things and make them better. Whether it be in life or...
Read moreWOW!!! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the service was top-notch.
Now, let's talk about the food. Every dish that came out of the kitchen was an absolute masterpiece! The flavors and spices were exquisite, and each bite was a culinary adventure. I could tell that the ingredients were fresh and carefully selected.
The menu offered a fantastic variety, and I appreciated the authentic original flavors in each dish. Whether you're a meat lover, pescatarian, or vegetarian, there's something for everyone.
I must also commend the staff, in particularly Gideon, for his attentiveness and knowledge. He was able to provide great recommendations and was genuinely passionate about the food they were severing.
Overall, my experience at Suya Hut was nothing short of exceptional. I highly recommend this gem of a restaurant to anyone looking for authentic west African food. I can't wait to go back and indulge in more of their...
