This was an overall okay experience. The few pros were the saving grace of the establishment. I’ll start with the pros.
My favorite part was the aesthetics and outdoor seating. There was no indoor seating, but what they had outside was very accommodating, especially given the popularity of the location. They also leave a bucket of water outside for dogs and cats to drink out of, super cute!
They have 2 single restrooms located inside, adding in a convenience factor for customers.
Now for the cons… The service was rough. Maybe it was because we came during a busy time, but we hit a lot of snags in this department.
There were no names or numbers associated with the orders, which made it super confusing and caused many people to take the wrong orders. This happened more than once while we waited.
A lot of the staff seemed stressed out and unhappy to be there. They also seemed to get confused when my friend tried to order an “iced coffee” which led to a 3-minute conversation and fuss. The explanation of a manager who came over to assist in the debacle was that the only iced coffees they have are americanos or nitro brew. This comment surely made my friend and I scratch our heads. Her solution? Apparently she did us a solid and gave us a “staff” iced coffee. Not sure what’s so confusing about pouring some drip coffee over ice, but thanks for the exclusive menu item I guess.
But wait, there’s more! When I asked what flavor the green scone was and the response? “Lemon Blueberry.”Now I may not be a pastry chef, but when I see a green baked good I’m thinking matcha or pistachio… Certainly not Lemon Blueberry. Leading me to believe the woman likely did not know the flavor and did not want to ask another staff member. I guess it saved me money in the end, so thanks for that!
Speaking of money, the prices were through the roof! I purchased the avocado toast and apricot almond iced latte. The total came to $16! Quite outrageous honestly. My friend also didn’t find out until after the fact that the donut she purchased was $4.
Now for the food itself. The avocado toast was good, honestly it was. What I liked most was that it was beautifully crafted. The flavor was good, not mind blowing, but good. Perhaps it could have used a dash more of acidity but that may be a personal preference. Universally, the dish is most likely yummy for all palettes. The coffee was okay. I got an apricot almond latte and it seemed to have a gritty texture when it hit my throat. Perhaps it was the apricot?
Overall, a change in customer service and organization would really make this place over the top. Whatever employee engagement you can do to make the employees excited about working here would most likely go far. And please, save everyone from some stress by adding in names and/or order numbers to call out at pick up.
Not sure I’ll return at this...
Read moreOverall, i felt like my head was stuck in a vacuum. I enjoy eating and shopping local and choose to do so over chains. However, this was an awful experience. I went to the media location tues @1 with the intention of sitting with my laptop for an hour. Apparently this is when they do the roasting. While seeing the machine and process is quaint and appeals to some patrons i found it to be terribly annoying; its sounds like a vacuum only 3 times as loud. i broke out my headphones and couldn't block the noise from the roaster. The acoustics in the building don't help either--glass walls, thin bare walls and floor, metal chairs. I would suggest to the owners to invest in some heavy rugs, acoustic foam or a large box for the roaster to soak up some of the white noise. I was chased out in less than 20 minutes by the noise and i probably wont go back unless a friend twists my arm (and i drink a lot of coffee). I gave the place 2 stars because the coffee and pastry were delicious. The macaroon was fresh and the coffee tasted very much like the allegro brand i get at whole foods and the price...
Read moreI haven’t been here in a number of years, and unfortunately, today’s visit reminded me of why I have not returned. I want to say the staff were very nice. I ordered a hot oat milk latte. It was so hot and also filled to the top, that when I tried to slide the cup over to put some sugar, it spilled over the sides and burned my hand. I tasted it, and it tasted burnt and unbelievably hot. I asked for them to make me another one not as hot. The woman told me that they make their hot drinks up to 150° which I find that insane. That’s exactly why my hand got burned. The latte was not creamy at all. The 2nd cup she made was bad, but I drank it just because it wasn’t so hot that I couldn’t. I also decided I was going to get a piece of avocado toast while I was waiting for my first coffee. They charge $9 for one slice of bread and it would’ve been decent as they use fresh avocado, but it was so salty that I couldn’t even eat but a few bites. I will not be returning to this coffee shop and I think they need to be careful of the temperature of the lattes before someone gets...
