It was very "meh." I didn't hate the meal, but I also did not enjoy it.
Staff was courtesous and while our waitress didn't check on us often, there seemed to be a service by committee approach and we didn't really feel forgotten.
We started with the octopus appetizer and it was underwhelming. It was definitely overdone and the flavor of the octopus itself was completely lost between the smokey flavor and the dressing. The meat was a little too tough and rubbery in the middle and the outer layers just broke apart in a way I've never experienced with octopus before. It felt like an octopus dish for people that don't like octopus.
Our entrees were both pasta dishes. The portion size was insane. I like a full meal, but this felt like they were deliberately making a portion that you can take home. Take-out containers were widespread on the tables. And what they gave in quantity they neglected in quality. Nothing was terrible, but it was boring. The flavors were one note and otherwise muted. The sauces broke with pools of oil collecting under our entrees. The good news was the pasta was cooked well and to an appropriate "doneness," so that important benchmark for an Italian restaurant was met successfully.
Review based on dinner service during a "Dining Under the Stars" Saturday night special (instead of Media's normal Wednesday night for DUTS). So we probably went at one of the busiest times to go here, and as a result we may have been there when the kitchen...
Read moreWe love this restaurant and we eat here frequently. However, on Saturday night I drove my pregnant wife to Fellini's from NE Philadelphia (45 minutes away) to enjoy dinner. We arrived at just after 9. Waited in the foyer to be greeted for nearly ten minutes, before I finally had to go into ask a bus boy if we could be seated. It was 9:15 at this point and then we're listed as open until 10 pm. The restaurant was not busy, and many servers walked past us in the dining room, seeing we weren't being helped and no one offered assistance. The bus boy came back to tell us they were no longer seating.... we asked aren't you open til 10? He responded yes. And I responded you stopped seating even though you are open for 40 more minutes? He responded with that's what his manager told him. We were extremely upset and disappointed by this. It was very apparent they just decided because their dining room was already almost empty they just simply didn't want to seat anyone else even though they were open for almost an entire other hour. Extremely disappointed in this unprofessional behavior. With many dining options along just State Street, you would think any restaurant would have more care and customer service to provide, and more professionalism. You may have thought you turned away one customer, for one night so you could home a little earlier, but the reality of it is you may have lost a customer and our recommendation to everyone we know...
Read moreVisited Fellini on Thursday Jan 11th 2024,and was very disappointed to say the least .Walked into restaurant all the staff was just standing around in the back near the kitchen no 1 spoke just looked at us as though we were lost.So eventually a young man by the name of Kyle came forward and greeted and seated us,I must say Kudos to this restaurant for hiring such an awesome young man, he is a Gem.First up was the bruschetta which was fresh but had a very weird distinct taste that I found to be offensive. The bread and butter was great.Next up was the appetizer which was the calamari which was just ok and the mini crab cakes which was greasy, little, flat fried pieces of mush with "I can't describe what was in the middle because I don't know what it was but it was disgusting and definitely was not crab" needs to be removed from the menu ASAP. The lemonade was ok.So I told them about the crab cakes and thought I'd try the meatball sliders instead, which was subpar. We ordered the Rack of lamb with broccoli and couscous, smhh. The poor lamb that was supposed to be cooked medium was charred and flavorless. Broccoli was very hard and had that same weird taste that the bruschetta had, the couscous hadno taste not even a but of olive oil & garlic just a bunch of parsley,oh yeah they sure load you up with parsley sprinkled on everything, very bad idea visiting this place, say what you want but I will stick to Maggianos..Again...
