Finally built the courage to try this establishment since I have been seeing it for some time. Placed an order to go, the young lady that took my order was great. She took the time to review the order with me to ensure the items being prepared were correct. Now between our interaction and the kitchen there had to be some miscommunication, I asked for garlic naan but ended up with a lot of rice. And maybe that’s on me for not checking my food but have when you place an order you expect the items to be in the bag. But in my defense they wrapped my containers up as well, silly me for thinking they were looking out for me.

Mind you I’d recently moved back to Memphis from Georgia, so I’ve desperately seeking the cuisine I enjoyed there here in Memphis. The menu said they have Tandoori wings, what I received was chicken wing vindaloo. I also ordered the tandoori shrimp, but was the same chilli loaded under spiced sauced concoction just with a different protein. Not sure if those males that work there didn’t think I knew what I ordered so I would just eat it and be happy or just didn’t care. But again I been enjoying this delicious yogurty perfectly spiced marinated cook in their iconic oven for years, the men in the kitchen didn’t even try. The menu called for yellow lentils my order came with black lentils. And this may be my being petty lentils grow from the ground in an array of colors but if the menu said yellow. The flavor was again under spiced and disappointing.

Spices are what empires made the their fortunes from. Spices are what enhance the flavor of food. Chillies and that zing but there is a clear difference between the two and should never be considered the same ingredient. Needless to say I doubt if I will try this establishment again, but to the young lady that took my order thank you to the men that came to the front to check me out and jack up my order, I hope this review encourages you to not to underestimate those who pay for services and think they don’t express one’s unhappiness...

To begin, I am not Indian. And yet, despite my admitted inability to claim to be an authority on the authenticity of the cuisine, I will say this...Not only is this the best Indian food I have ever had (including the so-called best establishments in Philadelphia and NYC), this is the best food I've ever had period. In the 6 months following the "discovery" of Golden India, my girlfriend and I make it a point to eat there twice a week. We have sampled almost the entire menu at this point, and while we definitely have our preferences (the vindaloo is simply spectacular), we have never once had anything short of an amazing meal. I have noticed a couple reviews that have mentioned that the service was slow, however, while this may be true when the restaurant is packed (the weekend dinner rush), I have to say that we have received wonderful service from all of the employees, especially the owner. And yes, he may seem distant at first, but the more we went, the more he opened up to us. Not everyone can be an extrovert, even in the restaurant business.

Bottom line, go here. And, if you are the type that wants the spiciest food Indian cuisine can offer, order the vindaloo, and order it "very, very spicy". Also, the garlic naan and Aloo Paratha are a perfect complement to that devilishly hot, yet oh-so-good, wipe the sweat off your brow (with a...

It's a shame I have to write this review because I really like the food but I had an issue when I ordered a Pick up last week. When I ordered online, it requested that I pay in person. All I ordered was the Mutter Paneer (No Naan Bread or Drink) and it was $16.41. When I went to pay, the guy at the counter said I owe $16.41 and he ran my debit card through. Once it was approved, he gave me the receipt to sign and I saw where $62.00 had been charged on my debit card. I immediately alerted the guy this and all he said was "I void this now." He did void this but this was very suspicious to me in how he got $16.41 confused with $62.00 especially when he had told me I owed $16.41. He looked at me like I caused an inconvenience to him when he was being a thief trying to steal money from me. Thankfully the almost $50.00 was immediately returned to my account but this really hacked me off. Please be careful people when you order from here and always make sure you double check your check and the prices on the menu. They will really try to rip you off or steal from you. I can't believe this guy thought I would be so stupid where I wouldn't even notice $62.00 to a...

Food is great as always, but man, the service has gone downhill badly. I was excited to bring my husband since I’m from Memphis and this was always one of my “go to” restaurants close to home. We were provided one rice bowl with two orders of the chicken coconut korma. When we had finished the rice we sat for 30 minutes while our coconut korma sauce got cold, waiting on to-go boxes and more rice and naan. The lady passed by us several times not even asking us if we needed anything. Finally I stared her down to get her attention because she didn’t tell us her name. She brought the check without asking us if we needed anything, and when I finally asked for food she looked inconvenienced. I hate she ruined the experience. It was only about 4 tables of people including us. Half the time she was standing at the front register doing nothing. One to-go box for two people after we asked for to-go boxes-plural. Like everything added up to be annoying.

The biryani is NOT biryani. It's rice with mildly spiced (flavor, not heat) paste and food coloring. Low quality taste and extremely stingy with the protein in meat dishes for the price. I may be biased since I've recently moved to Memphis from a top 10 US city with a thriving international food scene and large Indian population; but even with the vastly higher cost of living in that city, better quality Indian food was cheaper. Sad this was my first Indian food experience in Memphis. I will never intentionally eat from here again. At least 2 stars because the paneer dishes were on point, and when you ask for maximum spice level, they give it to you! PS All the South Asians have given this place poor reviews, while everyone else calls it 'authentic' 🙄

This is by far the best Indian food in Memphis. I've made it a point to try other places to compare them to this place. Other places are good, but Golden India is the best. I enjoy their Thursday and Friday buffets. Each day they server a regular menu on the buffet, so you always know what you're getting depending on the day you visit the buffet. I've discovered that Indian food is kind of like chicken and dumplings. It might all be the same stuff, but each granny has her own recipe, so no two are identical. The same is with Indian food. I think Golden India has the best recipes.
