(This has been my spot since childhood. I was disappointed the last time I visited Memphis & here because they aren't putting enough creme in the eclairs. I gave it 2 shots and its a lot less which makes me not go anymore. I hope it changes back to how they were made before)
I remember going to this donut shop with my mother (RIP) when I was a little girl. I still have my Father in Memphis & during one of my visits, my husband and I stopped by Tops BBQ which isn't far from Gibsons. This was the first time I had enough relaxed bandwidth in my brain to remember them when I started craving a donut. Dunkin Donuts is next to Tops BBQ but I remembered Gibsons being near so we searched Google for Donut Shops Near me and we were about 3 minutes away. We were in no way disappointed. We got apple fritters, Eclairs, Cruellers, Red Velvet cup cakes, jelly donuts and absolutely nothing disappointed but was impeccably PERFECT IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD. The apple fritter has real apples, the perfect dough, perfect weight and perfect flavor that isn't greasy like so many others apple fritters that I've eaten throughout my domestic and international travels. We devoured two in the parking lot and had to go back in for four more. The eclair is PERFECT with the dough, the taste and fullness of the filling. Another PERFECT TASTE in our mouths. The cruellers were amazing and not a ball of grease as has been the case with Dunkin Donuts and every other donut location I've visited throughout my travels. How could I have forgotten about this hidden gem? 💎 Gibsons, thank you for being honest and consistent with your tasty treats. Thank you for showing love and respect to your customers in giving only the best and not trying to undercut the customers with subpar treats. You're awesome and I will spread the word to everyone I know who has to come to Memphis. Thank you for being part of my childhood into now my adulthood. You brought the happiest vibes to me & we were able to reminisce over my beautiful Mother while consuming our last tasty treats this morning. 2 eclairs, 6 apple fritters, 2 red velvet cup cakes, 2 cruellers, 2 jelly Donuts. We will be buying more before our flight on Sunday. May God bless you & continue to oversee such a beautiful, decadently tasty and honest...
Read moreAs a visitor from Phoenix, Arizona, I have to say you all really have a true local donut gem here in Gibson's Donuts. They have a little bit of a reputation online, but compared to all the other local Memphis joints I tried based off online recommendations and hype, this is the only one that complete met and clearly earned that hype.
A lot of folks might think donuts can only go so far, but here they prove what a difference it makes CONSTANTLY making fresh donuts throughout the whole day from open to late night closing. I quickly learned that despite whatever donut types might be my favorite, when I come here I only want whatever they've just freshly made as that unique quality of a finished food product is rare to find in the donut world unless you're someone that can somehow get to a donut shop early in the morning soon as they open, or if you're a Krispy Kreme lover, coming during their Hot Light hours (yet in the first case you don't know how long it's been since they finished the batch they're serving, and in the Krispy Kreme case it's mainly just glazed donuts that are made fresh).
So Memphis locals, definitely support and enjoy this local gem of yours! It's the one place i ate at while here that I will really miss!
Again regarding recommendations, if you're not super die-hard about any particularly donut, then I'd try and scout what they've just finished making in the back, or ask if they're not busy, what donuts they've just finished making, and get that, as practically any fresh donut is a night-and-day difference to donuts thatve been sitting even for a little bit. Otherwise, you will be happy with any of their selections. They have their own unique take on donuts that's reminiscent of Krispy Kreme-style yet retains more of the doughy fluffiness and pull-apart...
Read more⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Gibson’s Donuts – Memphis, TN A glazed hallucination at the edge of breakfast and spiritual rebirth
I walked into Gibson’s Donuts just after noon—sweating coffee, chasing ghosts, and riding the tail end of a sugar low that felt like a minor apocalypse. What I found was not merely a donut shop. No, friend. This was a cathedral of fried dough, a holy house of ring-shaped redemption, glowing under fluorescent lights like some blessed oasis off the highway of American chaos.
The air was thick with warm glaze and destiny. Rows of donuts gleamed behind the glass like relics—each one a golden wheel of joy, humming with the kind of energy usually reserved for revival tents or jazz clubs at 3AM. These weren’t trendy, overpriced sugar sculptures. These were soul donuts—born of batter, sweat, and some unseen Memphis magic.
The glazed? Ethereal. It floated down my gullet like a hymn. The old-fashioned? A crunch at first, then soft as memory. Maple bacon, red velvet, blueberry cake—each one a different kind of revelation. This was no ordinary breakfast. This was edible poetry.
And the price? A miracle. In a time when everything comes with a surcharge and a smirk, Gibson’s is a straight shot of honesty. A couple bucks buys you a donut and a better mood. For five, you leave with a box and the unshakable feeling that maybe—just maybe—the world still makes sense.
Clean floors, kind faces, and that low hum of quiet joy in the air. The regulars know it. The wide-eyed tourists learn it fast. Nobody walks out of Gibson’s angry. You leave lighter. Not just from the donuts—but from the simple fact that this place exists at all.
God bless Gibson’s. It doesn’t try to be cool. It just is. A Memphis institution serving circles of deep-fried salvation, one...
