I came to this hotel because it was a part of my family reunion booking block. I came from Houston, TX and was looking forward to having a great time because of my previous experiences at other Hamptons and as a Hilton Gold Member. My partner and I checked in with the Supervisor - Ms. Johnson- who greeted us, charged my card and gave us a list of barbecue spots before giving us our room keys. Unfortunately, we were spoken to in a somewhat dismissive and unimportant manner.
Upon arrival to the room, the beds were unkempt as if someone had just rolled out of them. The bathroom had a rolled up wash rag and a bar of soap in the corner. So, we immediately went downstairs to ask for another room. While we were patiently waiting in line, Ms. Johnson checked in two White guests (my partner and I are Black) with a clear difference in tone. She appeared very polite.
When it was our turn to tell her about the room, she did give us another room, but we were offered no additional services or discounts. We were simply told that there was a “glitch in the system” and she was unable to really tell which rooms were clean and which were dirty. Well, as a supervisor, it is your job to maintain a level of professionalism and care. When your systems are down, you should make adjustments so that the customer is well taken care of at all times and your level of excellence is maintained.
I greeted Ms. Johnson with respect and spoke in a polite manner throughout both of our interactions. I was hoping she would be able to help more with our situation. She did apologize for the glitch, but again, offered no additional services.
In addition, the “hot breakfast” had frozen eggs, old waffle batter and fruit cocktail from a can. We ended up going to eat at a different establishment. Some of my other family members stayed at the Hilton down the street and had no issues, though hot breakfast was unavailable.
The hotel is centrally located in Memphis, close to popular food, drink and bar places, but that’s about all it offers. The rooms are small for $105/night. This was my partner’s first visit to Memphis but unfortunately we had a very disappointing experience at this hotel. My partner also needed a business center to finish work, but there is not one available at this location. My advice? Go to the...
Read moreI stayed at this location June 26-29 of 2024. Upon arrival security was outside and the lot was full. I was warned of break ins. I felt uneasy but continued. I should have went with first mind. The attendant was friendly and gave me room keys and great advice on parking. This is where the crazy began. My room did not have door lock for my room door. The door also does not close when you simply let it go. The first hour in the room my door was open unaware to me because I thought like most hotels the heavy door would slam shut.
Once again the door did not have a security latch on the door. The room was not changed well. My bed had stains on it. When I went to front desk because the phone was sticky, nasty and didn’t work, she explained they were sold out of rooms. She gave me some clean sheets to put on my bed because housekeeping was gone for day. Hey it was starting off all wrong. Long story short… the General Manager was suppose to call me the next day. I stayed on a friends and family discount so the site manager told me the GM has to look at my stay to offer any kind of compensation. No call.
I checked with front desk everyday for three days and was told the manager would contact me. I saw her come in and receive my message but still no contact, no care, no follow up. No points were given to me, I did change room after first night when check in rolled around for the next day. The manager at the time did explain that she told the GM and was sure she knew of my substation. I felt like I was a bother continually asking for Management. I had to stay in an unsafe room where the door latch was missing so no safety measure for me expect putting my bags behind the door. The door has to be pushed shut and would not close on its on. I was told that break-ins occur on property often, I was up through the night after long day of travel because I knew if I slept I wouldn’t hear the robbers (I was afraid at this point). I’m still waiting on Hilton management to contact me so I decided to leave this review to warn the next single woman traveling. I wish the General Manager at this location would have done the least, a phone call. Hampton inn Memphis-Popular General Manager...
Read moreThe day time staff were friendly. I was part of a big group that stayed there for a family reunion. Upon arrival both elevators were broken so stairs had to be used. We had multiple family members with cane's and one with a wheel chair, so they had to sit in the lobby for hours until it was fixed. Upon entering our room to say I was shocked at how small the room was is an understatement. The room didn't smell clean, thankfully I brought some disinfectant wipes with me. By the time me and my daughter got done wiping down JUST the tables in the room our wipes were black. The bathroom tub had dirt and hair on it and in it. The floor needed to be mopped. Thankfully our sheets were clean on the bed. I booked the room with a king bed and pullout hidabed because it was me my husband and 2 kids. They did not leave any bed supplies for our kids. We had to ask twice for them and was told they only had 1 extra pillow, 1 small blanket and no sheets available. Our room had 2 towels in it Upon arrival even though I booked the room for 4 people. The evening/night guy that worked told us they had no more towels available. He was a very lazy rude man. We figured that out by night 2. On night 2 we had a pull party (very tiny pool). There were no pool towels out there. When me and my additional family members who also had rooms there, went to the front desk for towels so they could bath themselves and their kids, we were once AGAIN told there was NO towels available. That morning the GM had said they had plenty of towels. If none were on the 1st floor he should have went to the 2nd to retrieve some. I am very surprised that Hilton has their name associated with this hotel. It needs to be closed and have a complete make over. Highly would NOT recommend...
