Jacques Louise Gluten Free Bakery and Coffee Shop — Restaurant in Memphis

As someone who’s watched my mom stay dedicated to being gluten-free for 13 years, we were both excited when Memphis finally got its first all gluten-free bakery. She saw a photo of their cinnamon roll online, and the joy on her face was instant — this was the one. We planned our visit for a Saturday, which also happened to be my birthday. She joked that it was her birthday too, “because she pushed me out.” That alone made the trip feel special — until we actually ate.

Let’s talk about that cinnamon roll.

We expected something warm, soft, gooey, maybe even nostalgic. What we got instead was dry — disappointingly, surprisingly dry. It didn’t have the tender texture of a classic cinnamon roll, nor the sweetness or buttery melt-in-your-mouth swirl. Instead, it felt more like a dense, crumbly roll that had been sitting out too long.

Pair that with drinks that didn’t deliver either — bland and unmemorable — and the entire experience felt like a letdown, especially given the boutique prices. We wanted to love it. We needed to love it. But we left feeling disappointed.

As much as I respect what they’re trying to do (and we love supporting gluten-free businesses), this one missed the mark. We’re hoping they improve their recipes and textures — because the gluten-free community deserves treats that taste...

THE BEST GLUTEN FREE IN MEMPHIS-AREA!!! I have eaten in so many gluten free places over the years and this one is HANDS DOWN the BEST in flavor, texture, quality, creativity, and more that I have ever had!! Not gluten free? Don't worry, you won't even notice you're missing anything. And do not sleep on the drink menu! It's sooooo delicious! Gold Star latte is by far one of my favorite drinks ever from any coffee shop.

Eat in-store, in the courtyard, get it to go... pre-order custom/large orders and full cakes/pies online on their website for pickup! They have more allergen accommodations than just gluten, like various milk substitutes for drinks. Everything is clearly labeled for 10 different allergens (gluten, corn, tree nut, soy, oat, dairy, egg, peanut, sesame, and potato) at the time of this review.

The owners are incredibly talented and kind people that have spent years developing their recipes to perfection. Their passion for excellence, community, and quality rivals the best GF...

Had a delicious lunch at the new bakery in Overton Sq., Jacques Louise. 100% Gluten Free! The Quiche Lorraine was savory with a perfect flaky crust. The Matcha with a Bramble Patch syrup Latte was delicious on a warm June day. I ate half of the most delectable lemon tart, again the crust was perfect GF! I bought a Cinnamon Roll with Apple Pie topping to go. So many wonderful breads, pastries and cookies to choose from. I will be going back soon! My gluten free peeps are going to love Jacques Louise.
