JJ's Tropical — Restaurant in Memphis

I went To the restaurant for dinner with my 2 children. It was one of the worse experiences in restaurants . First , the food takes over 30 minutes to arrive . The beans were bad ! Expired, a lot of people will probably have stomach ache tonight after eating here. I was not able to eat my plate. I also got a margarita which was ok not great . They bring me a second plate with different beans but couldn’t even eat it because I felt “yucky” from the bad beans and the plate was swimming in cheese. The costumer service is awful! We never got refills, nobody checked to see if we needed anything. I literally had to stand looking for a waitress to get things we needed. The cup that they gave my baby had a hole on it all of her pants got wet on icy water. Nobody came over to check at any point. My baby had to stay there with iced cold water wet pants for around 30 m so that we could pay to leave this place . Yea! They did charge me for the plate with the bad beans that was not even eaten. I tried JJs Tropical twice. The first time was when it first opened and again last week. The food is not good. The first time, I tried the tamales. The tamales were super thick with very little beef. The Second time, I ordered lemon pepper chicken wings. The wings were over cooked, hard and try with very little seasoning. I ask for more seasoning and was given a lot of lemon pepper.

The server we had was really enjoying himself. He was enjoying himself so much we couldn't get a hold of him if we needed anything and he was drinking on the job. The music was too loud to try to converse with anyone. A lot of Mexican restaurants turn into clubs after 5pm. This just wasn't my environment to enjoy and eat. First of all I'm so tired of coming here! I done had everything on the menu and the portions are too big. Imagine eating dinner then having just enough left for lunch to make you crave more making you come back for a vicious cycle. I've gained 20 lbs since they first opened! Latrice, Emanuel , and JJ make drinks that are stronger than COVID back in 2020 .. The damn service makes you feel like home where everyone love you. I cleaned my own table cause Patty treat me so good I damn near offered to do my own dishes. I can't keep coming in here at 5pm and leaving at 12am.
