This waffle house was the best one that I've ever eaten at! I am a true fan of fried eggs so I go to allot of waffle houses. Literally every city or State I visit, waffle house is always my go to for breakfast food. I ordered four scrambled eggs with cheese and they were prepared perfectly. They weren't too runny or too hard. It's either-or at every other location I've ever visited but never just right like I love them! I ate all my eggs before I even touched anything else. Kiss the cook at this location for preparing tasty food that's cooked at the right temperatures. The cook was a 25-35 yr old black male. This guy got my food ready in a very timely manner and every item was cooked perfectly. Never had this experience at a waffle house. Everrr! Kudos for food.
Now Let's talk cleanliness: The guest dining area was fairly clean. No dirty tables at all, neither were the floors or bathroom dirty, but the food preparation area needs a deep clean. The walls under and behind the grills were drenched in old grease and food particles. A clean as you go policy should be implemented promptly because, although the equipment was in consistent use, there shouldn't be leftover food particles and scraps present from the orders prepared before the current guest.
. I observed a blonde haired woman/employee exit the restroom after appearing to have washed her hands but didn't wash her hands again when she entered the food prep area. She appeared to be Management, which was quit surprising to me. Also other employees took a break and after finishing their personal meals, they did not proceed to wash their hands immediately before going back into work tasks.
The cook failed to change gloves when he went from cooking on the grill, to the refrigerator to grab ingredients, grabbing uncooked food, or to the waffle maker, and then after placing ready to eat food on platters all within the same glove use.
Good safety is so very important and the staff as well as management really need training, as well as consistent development in this store. We have to quit lacking in the food service industry and quit using an employee shortage from COVID 19 pandemic as an excuse to cut corners on facility cleanliness and commendable customer service. I don't believe we should be allowed to even open the doors of restaurants If the cleanliness isn't up to par.
Although a food Bourne illness hasn't occurred from this establishment, the things I observed are the exact stepping stones needed to start one. The cross contamination from the improper glove usage alone contributed to me having an upset stomach filled with trapped gas later on in the night while resting. It was excruciating for about an hr and a half or two. Since I only eat 1 meal a day, everyday, I'm sure that those seemingly small acts during preparation was the cause of my discomfort. Luckily I have a very strong immune system and take probiotics regularly because of my food safety profession. Tasting, chewing, and consuming different food daily can be very dangerous.
Please owners or corporate, take this review very serious. Immediate correction in food safety is in order for most waffle house locations in the Midsouth. The customer service was very pleasant as well! My orders were correct and nothing was missing. The cashier was informative about prices and menu items. Everyone spoke professionally and wore a big smile. The employees seemed to enjoy working with each other in which is very important.
Great experience. Would've been a near perfect visit if the prep areas didn't need cleaning and if the necessary handwashing procedures were in play. But since this was the best waffle house I've ever eaten at, I only took one star from your 5 star rate as opposed to only giving one star usually to any food safety violation.
I'm confident this establishment will clean up and redeem themselves because it has the potential of being one of, if not the best location in the chain...
Read moreUsually well nearly all the time I get exactly what I want the way I want it except when a certain manager is running the show, such as today 1/22/19; the regular day shift lady was not there, probably her day off because usually I only go in on the weekends, but should we regress. I made my usual order, no mind you twice in as many weeks this individual has been cooking, once was on a weekend when the normal manager had to leave, but both times I got the same kind of service. Bad service once - ok, second time - time to post.
At any rate I placed my order, I sit at the bar, I hear the lady call my order into the manager / head cook. He gets about half of it cause he's busy directing telling everyone else how to do their job while neglecting his own. At any rate I ordered a double order of hash browns, scattered smothered and covered, same as always. Well he prepares my dinner and places it in a to-go container, no one said to go, not the waiter or me but he decided thats the way it was. The waitress tells him its not to-go, politely I might add and he goes off on her about it (his mistake but not man enough to take ownership). So now he scoops it on a platte and she delivers it, problem is, I know what a double order of hash browns looks like and how big it is, and this was more like a single order. I told the waitress and she proceeds to tell the cook its not a double order. He jumped her again like it was her fault for not tattooing it on his forhead or something, she told him but he did not listen. So now he cooks up a second order of hash browns, just plain and has them delivered.
Not only once has this individual done this but twice now and both times he was too busy barking orders and telling everyone what to do that he failed to do his own job and do it correctly. Next time I go in if this guy is cooking Im going across the street to McDonalds where they listen and get the order right the first time.
Chantilly ( I hope the name is spelled right) is the best manager they have, this individual does not seem to pay attention, as i ate there today I saw he messed up more orders than he sent out, he always want to be doing it all, cook the eggs, hash browns, bacon, sausage, steaks - whatever, no one else can cook but him, don't know why the others are there he refused to give them the job and empower them to perform that work - he is a micro-manage to the enth degree - probably not a really good fit for a place that takes pride in preparing fast food good, he just wants to get it out and if its...
Read moreThis might've just been a bad experience. We had what seemed like a new waitress and cook. The waitress was trying but not ordering or calling out the order correctly to the cook. The experienced cook came back in after about fifteen minutes of waiting and helped the waitress and the cook. One family left because they were two ahead of them and we came in after them.
There was a guy at the bar area and he must've been a usual. He handed us a menu for review and wasn't served his meal [he'd paid for already!!!] until after we were served. The experienced cook helped out alot but was ready to fly out of the door. The new waitress got better but the new cook was highly upset because the experienced cook left her!! She begin to take her frustration out on the new waitress and another older lady waitress who'd just started her shift. It was a mad house but my advice to Waffle House is to make sure someone is there to train both a new waitress and new cook during the entire shift. This would have helped both ladies - hopefully, this doesn't come as offense but as helpful ways to better this location. I like this location but my experience wasn't good at all this time.
P.S. The food wasn't their best - burnt here and there but I understood. Needless to say, I ate it alllll!!! My to-go wasn't the best though since the experienced cook had left the new cook alone and she stopped caring at all - it went to my daughter and Mom. My mom wasnt too pleased with the burnt burnt...
