Finally had a chance early enough on the weekend morning to try the new Black Bear Diner in Menifee without having to fight the crowds and wait - especially since it's Father's Day today! Anyway, I tried the Father's Day special: something like a chopped up chicken fried steak in an omelette with everything but the kitchen sink. It had mushrooms, spinach, onions, peppers, cheese, etc. It actually was pretty good, especially with some hot sauce! The papa bear habanero hot sauce to be specific. I asked for the potatoes with peppers and onions to be well done. They were not but they tasted okay. The rye toast was nothing special. My wife ordered the biscuits and gravy, which she does at most breakfast diners we frequent. Unfortunately, they were extremely bland and worst of all cold. The plate was warm - actually hotter than the biscuits and gravy. I tried a bite and the biscuits were flavorless. What made them worse was that the gravy was so bland. I warned my wife before she ordered those because we stopped at the outlets in Barstow and ate at that black bear diner a few years ago that she tried them back then and they sucked. Oh well, they're probably good for the masses, but not if you're really into decent quality flavorful foods. The restaurant will probably do fine in Sun City and I noticed it opens an hour earlier than the Murrieta location. We were the third party in there at 6:01 a.m. this morning and the wait for the food to come out was inordinately long. I don't know if the kitchen was just firing up or they had the poor suckers who couldn't get Father's Day off back there trying to hold down the fort. In any event, the old retirees in Sun City have a place to show up bright and early now and close by. :-) But the Black Bear Diner is not for us. :-(

We ordered takeout from Black Bear Diner because we were in the area, but the best part of our visit were the photo opps! Hubs ordered the Sweet Cream Pancakes and I got the Sweet Cream Waffle, as we wanted to try new twists on the standard buttermilk pancakes and Belgian waffle. Both have the option to add fresh fruit & whipped cream for $3.49, which we requested to do, minus the whipped cream. The cashier asked if we'd like to make it a meal, and when we asked what it would come with, she said egg and the fruit. I said as long as it didn't come with meat and we requested scrambled eggs. We didn't get our receipt until our takeout order was ready, and we noticed it didn't list meals with egg, but the a la carte pancakes and waffle as we originally ordered. Instead of each meal having the added fruit for $3.49, however, we were charged for and received a single $7.99 Fruit Bowl. 2 sides of fruit added onto our meals would have totaled $6.98, and we can't see that we received any more fruit for a $1 more in the 12 oz. deli container they called a fruit bowl. Along with our disposable utensils we also received ketchup packets, as if our order was supposed to be a meal with eggs. Confusing! 🤷‍♀️ Even for the slightly different sweet taste, $11.79 for 2 pancakes and $12.49 for a waffle is pricey. The "packaging fee" of $1.69 is also tacky, when we're saving the restaurant the labor of our dish-washing and table-cleaning and still tipping on our takeout order. In summary, we didn't get what we ordered, nor the meal that was suggested. I guess it was our bad for trying something new right before Christmas! 🎄🐻

We ordered a lot of food at this place and this is only our second time being at this particular black bear restaurant, the soup was a bland taste It really didn't have any flavor and almost made me think it was out of a can and just warmed up. I would think that the server that we had had a lot of big tables. When you have lots of big tables you can't get back around quick enough to all the tables. That is no fault to her that is a manager thing not having enough staff to take care of orders. We were allowed to use our military discount to take some money off the bill. The food was delicious I would not order the soup again and basically from the The pictures that I'm showing you have to make your own opinion. This was after 1:00 and before 4:00 so it really in my opinion was not that busy. We were allowed to found a parking space. This place has terrible parking. It is hard to get into during the breakfast and lunch and dinner crowd due to the fact you can't find a parking spot. And since the other places got so mad and cut their areas off for parking You can only park in front of black bear restaurant.

We are frequent customers of black bear diner both in our home town and while we are on the road.we have dined at black bear dinners In several states. We enjoy the warm welcoming friendly atmosphere to put us in a comfortable spot to enjoy a delicious meal.

Today we met some family members at the Menifee restaurant for our first time visiting this location. It was 11:00 am , so for a late breakfast / lunch. There was 6 of us.

The restaurant was busy and luckily they have a decent size waiting area inside so we were able to avoid the heat while we waited, after just a few minutes we were seated. Our sever Brenda was getting our drinks while we took a few minutes to look over the menu. We placed our orders and as I listened to my family placing orders I was thinking, oh my we sounded like a group of very difficult and picky eaters.

This didn’t phase Brenda in the slightest. She made sure our food was as we asked for it. (The food was delicious.)

Brenda was running back and fourth from our table as if we were her only table, we were not. She had a great attitude and the perfect personality for the job she was doing she made today’s experience more than a great meal.

With a few years of dining at black bear diner, we have always enjoyed the good service. And delicious food, (we do miss the chicken pot pies though ).

Brenda's dedication to her job and how her personal touch made us feel like family or as if we were the owners of the restaurant and not just some first time random customers. She made such an impression that I gave her a 30 percent tip and felt like I was cheating her for not tipping more.

Hopefully black bear diner realizes what a special employee they have and with her kind of service I’m not surprised that location was super busy.

Good job black bear dinner. GREAT JOB! Brenda thank you again for your...

Today's service was just not it. I understand when there are very busy days and we dont mind waiting to be served, but that was clearly not the case today. We waited patiently to get our food ordered and served to only have paper in one of our orders from the cheese that is used. There were 3 servers that were talking amongst themselves in the beverage area. We waited for our server to finish talking and come out to the floor. We tried to get her attention and completely walked by. Waited for her again to try and explain to her that one of the sandwiches had paper in it. Without letting us finish talking, she grabbed the plate and said oh ill talk to my manager. We completely understand that she was coming from a good place but, at the same time we felt that she didn't even want to acknowledge our concern, it was a quick "shut up" in the face. While our table was waiting for the food to be replaced, the same 3 waitresses were talking again in the beverage area, we were in need of napkins and a fork. Again we're trying to get our waitresses attention, once shes done talking she walks right by us when we try to call her; with no acknowledgement or letting us know she will be back with us. We tried asking one of the other waitresses and she made us feel that we were bothering her, she stopped talking gave us what we asked for and left. Once we were brought the food, all we got was were sorry that happened and again as we tried to speak, the manager/server walked right off. The whole time we felt that our concerns we had were just completely ignored by staff and just a simple service we needed wasn't worth the time of...
