Applebee's Grill + Bar — Restaurant in Menomonie

Went to Applebees in Menomonie Wi for supper. Got seated right away, they told us Beth, the waitress would be there soon. The waitress arrived, took our drink order then disappeared for a while. She brought us water and didn’t say anything about the lemonades we ordered. She came back then took our order. I ordered something that I have always ordered and never had a problem getting even though it was no longer on the menu. She said “We don’t have that”. So I told her I have been able to get it as recently as two weeks prior. After that she disappeared, and ignored us. My food came but not all of it, she never said anything about why I didn’t have all my food or when I’d get the rest. I waited for the rest of the food, she continued serving other tables and was laughing and joking with all of them but never asked us if we needed anything, never told me when I’d get the rest of my food, nothing. She was purposely avoiding me. My daughter got her food and had almost finished before the rest of my food came. When she brought the rest of the food I started to ask if I could get some more dressing for my wrap and she interrupted me and asked if I wanted a box. I hadn’t even started eating yet. I asked for more dressing she said it was in the wrap and laughed like I shouldn’t haves asked for anything. She went out of her way to be rude and dismissive. This was clearly revenge for me asking for something not on the menu. She never came back to see if we needed anything ever. Consistently acceptable food. They need to work on wait-staff protocol when customer count is low. Standing around shooting the bull with each other is not professional. The manager was on the ball but seemed to be over-looking this factor on one visit. Otherwise, aside from the occasional hair on a plate, things are ok.

I have to edit this review. I wanted to think the problems we have had with hair in our food was random - but after reading many more instances of this happening, it is indicative of a HUGE problem with basic sanitation _ Hair Control. This is the first step in the sanitation picture in a restaurant. If Applebees is failing at this simple task, then I would like to take an unannounced tour of their kitchen and prep areas. I speak with some authority as I previously taught Food Service Sanitation at UW-Stout through the Biology Department. I know of what I speak.

Applebee's management - you need to institute some training at the Menomonie store. Not only in sanitation, but in training on how to accept diversity in the workplace. In the last 10 reviews, 20% directly deal with the racist behavior toward customers of color at your restaurant. Rest assured this is happening more if two people complained online - dozens more chose to never go back and told their stories to others. I really was hoping there wouldn't be a request for a review on this one. I'd love to say this was 5 ⭐ all around, but it wasn't. We were there 9 years ago & were absolutely horrified with everything about the visit. Out of the blue, we decided to give it another try........ The flavor of my steak (ribeye) with onions, was amazingly delicious. The seasoning flavor was excellent, it was a little under cooked for what I hoped for, but was spot on for what I ordered, so no complaining about that at all (Ordered med/rare, expected med but I do prefer steaks more on the rare side, so I was completely ok with it). My wife said her meal was very good also.

Our issues were with the service. We were asked once how it tasted, soon after we got it. Then, nothing until she brought the bill. My margarita was not good tasting, it took way to long to get, the bartender was busy in conversation with outside orders, but I also wasn't asked if I wanted another, or something else. We decided to just end the night at that & head home. I would've been absolutely fine with staying there, more margaritas, more chips with salsa, & then Happy New Year!
