Azteca Mexican Restaurant and Margarita Bar — Restaurant in Mentor

I came in for lunch this past Sunday, specifically to see how things were going after the resteraunt had closed last month to re-tool under new management. I found many of the awful things people were saying on a Mentor related social media page (that I will not mention here) to be very unfair to the hardworking folks who show up every day to bring us our tacos and cerveza.

Now let me be very clear, prior to the shakeup I was alreary coming here for the occasional weekend lunch. I had no complaints before and I have no complaints now. It's a great atmosphere to sit down, watch the game, take your time with a few drinks, and eat tacos to your hearts content.

The staff, as always, were friendly and attentive, my beer stayed full, and the food was delicious. The impact of new management could be seen as well.

When I came in it was early, I was likely the first customer of the day. The staff was finishing up moving EVERYTHING in the dining room: booths, tables, chairs, and sweeping every square inch of the resteraunt from front to back. The attention to detail was obvious. I found the restroom to be spotless, with soap and hand towels well stocked.

If what I could see as an outside observer is any indication, Azteca is likely the cleanest dining facility in the city of Mentor. I liked them already, but now they've hit a new stride.

My only complaint, if I could have one is how empty it was of customers. People in the area, COME ON! I can't eat all the tacos and drink all the beer myself (I'll give it the old college try!) The hard working folks staffing this place deserve better than to suffer for the negligence of one former General Manager. Let me start off by saying before last night, i thought very highly of this establishment. I’ve been here several times now with my family. I rave about this place, truly! The food is very fresh and the service from the female servers is absolutely spectacular. However, our male server last night was absolutely horrible. He gave zero effort towards his job. He was quite rude honestly and did not care about his job one bit. First of all we had no silver ware even though the empty tables were set with silverware which was confusing, our server was no where to be found to even ask for some nor did i even feel comfortable asking him for some because he was so unpleasant to interact with. This visit was very different compared to all of our other experiences. Believe me I have worked in the service industry for several years and I completely understand what it is like to work on a Busy Saturday night. This was the worst service I have ever received honestly it was embarrassing and quite upsetting. We came out to celebrate and it was a terrible time due to the service we received. When it was time to pay our bill the server overcharged us by “mistake”. I’m not sure how you ring in two of the same meals and don’t even notice that before you drop the check off to the table. On top of that we gave a coupon that was literally never even applied to our bill nor given back to us. Not sure where the coupon went. My guests and I were extremely disappointed with this situation. It was honestly not even worth our time to ask about the coupon. Was excited to see this place when I drove by. I sat at the bar, its a Wednesday night, it wasn't busy. Gentlemen next to me that was there before me had to ask for chips since none were brought out, and they brought some to me as well. I ordered queso to start after eating 1/2 of the chips, it came out cold. I figured that's just how they serve their cheese? I placed my order for Seafood Relleno, which was a huge mistake. My chips were gone, and I wasn't offered a refill. It was probably 45 minutes before my food finally came out, and that was also cold. (The guy next to me ordered food, he seemed to know her, and it was out in 5 minutes!). The rice was very cold as if pulled out of a fridge and brought up to room temp by just sitting out. The seafood taste was ok, but would have been a lot better if warm or hot. Then, the bill issue. I was handed the correct bill, but charged someone else bill. When I said something, I got a very dirty look like I was wrong, she kelp looking at the bill. After a long while, she told me she owes me x amount. I said no, I need my bill, since a receipt of only alcohol can't be on a receipt that I have to turn it. So I wait again, and its finally fixed, and she said it was the person up front who screwed this up. But I watched her ring it in and also run my card, it was directly in front of me. If I ever return, and see her working, I will not stay and just leave. But a return is highly unlikely, due to her attitude and no concern for my very long wait time for the food, and blaming her mistakes onto other employees that had nothing to do with her...
