Frida Restaurant and Grocery — Restaurant in Meriden

Wow, was I surprised with Frida Restaurant and Grocery. As always I brought one of my kids to dinner and opinion. First off the owner greeted us with a huge smile and brought us to a table. The place was spotless and well decorated. Offering both food and groceries Frida's had a nice mix. Now to the food. As you can see we ordered a Taco Salad and several tacos. The servings were large and cooked as soon as we ordered. Sometimes food sits there and then is served at some restaurants. Not here. The Taco Salad offered well seasoned beef over a bed of lettuce with beans, corn, tomato, cilantro and more. Delicious and well presented. We ordered Camita which is deep fried pork, Al Pastor which is marinated pork with pineapple, Chorizo and Pescado fish tacos. All large and excellent. I don’t know what happened here but I’ve gone here since they have opened and have never been disappointed. Today was not the same experience as far as my food is concerned; I ordered a Carnitas Tostada and was pleasantly surprised that they came two per order. When I bit into my tostada I got nothing but taco shell and a bed of shredded lettuce and sour cream dripping all over my hands. It took about three bites to get to the carnitas, once I got to the supposed carnitas i bit into nothing but rubbery, pork fat. Stumbled onto this place after a hike at Hubbard park and I’m so glad I did! Not only is the food amazing but the owners are as well! This place is an absolute gem. If I lived closer I would be here all the time considering how great the prices are. Sooo many tacos to choose from I was in heaven! All the ones I got were so savory and their homemade sauces are just as tasty/ spicy as well.
