I'm sorry, but it was awful. I ordered catfish, cheese grits, and coleslaw. I will give them 1 positive. The coleslaw was good. That's where it ends. The uppity folks who dine downtown Meridian at exorbitant prices have clearly never had a decent meal if they think this is someplace to go.
For about $25/person (including a drink) to eat there plus tip, we received 1 piece of fish?!? Really? The side dishes were small as well. The fish made me sick. It was undercooked inside. Slimey and nasty. It had an awful flavor to it (the fish itself), the very thick breading was trying to overpower the nasty fish taste. You can get better food (and a lot more of it) for way less at a gas station in Meridian.
The cheese grits were not good and did not pair well with the catfish, which is a dish I usually enjoy together. The grits had an odd flavor.
The initial service was super fast, we hardly handed the menu back before the food arrived. I wish I could say the same about the rest of the meal. We sat without refills until we were done eating, and she poured hot tea over the few remaining melted pieces of ice I had left, leaving a watered-down lukewarm tea.
This was my first and will be my last experience here. I ate the original many years ago, and it was a different experience.
P.S. I edited my "grammar" mistakes (a missing comma in a few places and a double word.) I'm sorry, I guess typing on my phone was about as difficult for me as serving safely prepared food was for Jean's. "Uppity, yes. It's in the dictionary. Defined as: "self-important; arrogant." Real classy response by the way, about what I expected after...
Read moreITS THE POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE AND BAD ATTITUDE FOR ME!!!!! ESPECIALLY COMING FROM ALAN THE OWNER AND FACE OF THIS ESTABLISHMENT!!!! I had a terrible experience at Jean's today. I had not been rude with him , so I did not understand why he was starting to get rude with me. I expressed that I had been a frequent and valued (at least I thought so prior to this) customer who brings large crowds of other customers with me on a regular basis 10-15 people, but based on this experience today I may have to reconsider. I stated to my friend sitting next to me that I was leaving. Alan repeatedly told me I've got to do what I've got to do! And do what ever you need to do with a serious attitude of I don't care if I lose yours and your friends' service or not. Which was a shock to me, because he usually does much better than this when it comes to customer service. In that moment I felt that our business did not matter to him one way or the other. Since when is this acceptable behavior of someone who is essentially in the business of service. I understand if you have a rules to abide by, but as the owner of a company you also have to remember to provide great customer service and that the customer is always right even when you believe they are wrong because WITHOUT THE CUSTOMERS YOU HAVE NO BUSINESS!!!!! This is just customer service 101!!!!!! You must find a way run a business, have rules, but first and foremost PROVIDE GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE AND...
Read moreFirst Visit — Hoping It Was Just an Off Day I recently moved to Meridian and decided to give Jean’s a try. The place itself is really charming, and I was excited to enjoy a good Southern meal. I ordered the baked chicken (white meat), side salad, and braised cabbage—it also came with cornbread.
Everything came out within two minutes of ordering, which raised some concern right away. The salad was extremely basic—barely anything to it. The chicken looked dry, and unfortunately, it tasted just as it looked. It was so tough and chewy that I couldn’t eat it. The cabbage had decent texture but was lacking in flavor. The cornbread completely crumbled when I picked it up—super dry.
The only thing I managed to eat was the cabbage and the salad. I’m really hoping it was just an off day for them, because the atmosphere and location had great potential. They were busy, so I’ll withhold comments on the service for now. I may give it another shot down the road and hope for a...
