Have been wanting to visit this place since it recently opened.
Upon arriving, we were told we can sit wherever we want. We had made a reservation just in case, but there was plenty of seating.
After we moved tables, since the one we were originally seated at we felt was too small, we noticed the really cool and "dia de los muertos" motif and decor in the place. It was really nice, and reminded me of Barbacoa in Boise, albeit a little less extreme.
There was soft rock music playing fairly loudly on the speakers, but nothing offensive and not too loud to disallow conversation.
Upon seating, we noticed we were missing a pepper shaker on our table, but their design was a really cool porcelain skull.
Upon opening the menu, we noticed they were kind of sticky and had pieces of chips spilled inside. Not a great start but we moved on.
I wanted to order an alcoholic drink, but found that several of the choices I made from their drink menu were no longer served.
The silverware at the table was really cool and a dark metal and very clean, as were the water glasses with ice that we were served without even asking.
Our waitress was taking care of our table, plus 3 others, PLUS a 14-top, and both my brother and I felt was a bit much for her to be asked to handle, but she did it as well as can be expected.
I ordered the chips and queso blanco, and it was to die for, plus the chips were made fresh and in house. YUM!
There was a bit of wait, it took us 20 minutes after we were seated to order our drinks, and overall our food took another 30 minutes before it arrived. The food was fresh, tasted great, and was nice and hot and well prepared.
I ended up changing my drink order with the Assistant Manager Ivan, but he forgot to tell our waitress. She arrived with our food 45 minutes after we arrived, and I still didn't have my drink. I asked her to check with Ivan for my Mojito, and making sure my original drink was cancelled (which was good, since it still had not arrived).
Ivan returned shortly thereafter with a super tasty Raspberry Mojito, and comped my first drink on the house since both were so late. A very nice touch and super appreciated.
An Andes mint at the finish of our meal was a great finishing touch.
Overall, we enjoyed our visit. They are a new establishment so there is a little room for improvement here and there, but generally, a great experience and we...
Read morePlease read whole review for a honest opinion. Since this is a newer restaurant I understand having to work some things out; please see this as things that could be worked, not as me hating on this restaurant. Our waiter was terrific and helped us out a lot. I wouldn’t come back to see if there’s been any improvement either. The first issue was the wait time for very small portions of food. My table waited an hour and a half for three dishes. The second issue is the food itself. The ceviche came in the portion of a cup, not a bowl. It had an unusual taste of garlic which was very off putting and we sent it back after one bite. That one bite was also thrown up less than an hour later. Our nopales (cactus) plate came with a single nopale, the sauce on top was not appetizing and threw the dish off. The “street” tacos were $6 for a SINGLE taco. They load up the tacos so much, but some times too much is not a good thing. I’ve also never had bell peppers on my tacos and will never be thinking of adding it to any future tacos. All the food had one thing in common as well, no flavor or seasonings were tasted. As a hispanic myself, I know that seasoning is everything for food and how it makes a huge difference. The third issue is the atmosphere. There were neon pink and blue lights that were not pairing well with the restaurants’ vibe so to speak. The lights were not very easy on the eyes and we had to leave because I could feel a headache coming on from the lights alone. The waiters were friendly, as I mentioned before, but that was the one positive. Also, do not plan on drinking here when you can go across the street and get the same drink for half the price. I do understand their rent might be expensive for an exclusive area, but it really turns customers down when the food makes you wish you stayed home and cooked. The owner was nice and comped some food items that were taken back. We did appreciate that since two tacos, one mixed drink, one modelo, and the side of chips and salsa totaled out to $38 and change. We definitely tipped our waiter for his...
Read moreWe dined there today with my family. I’m Hispanic so I thought this would be a good place to try. We love Mexican food. The Service was great but the food to me, was not Mexican at all. Weird flavors & I felt what we ordered was not what we ordered. I ordered the chile rellanos. I got jalepeno poppers pretty much, jalapeños cut in half stuffed with cream cheese and bacon bits on top. Not what those are. I got four jalapeños for $15. Way way overpriced. I asked for a bowl of Mexican rice, the bowl was small and the rice was exactly like rice a roni Mexican rice for $5. I make that cheater rice often and it was pretty much the same. The tacos are $5 for 1, so we got our three kids a taco and they shared a bowl of rice. My hubby had same thing as me and we got 2 Coronas. The chips and dip flight however was very good, but also very expensive. All that for $100, I about fell off my chair. I can make all that for less than $25 bucks and probably cheaper and taste more authentic, especially if I make my rice from scratch and not use the rice a roni boxes. We were very disappointed to say the least. We left hungry and felt like we got cheated out. It’s way too expensive and the food lacked Mexican flare or authenticity. I don’t recommend this place. However the atmosphere for drinks is nice. Sorry guys I feel like this place can be vamped up in food area. If you had dipped the jalepeno poppers in the egg dip for how chile fella is are made that would have been better and more on the authentic side. Or just looked up the recipe for it. But I felt I got jalenpo poppers with out being friend. Chile tells is you also use...
