On Sunday morning, 7/21, their credit card system is down (cash only transaction). There was no notice whether they put it on the "smart board" or just plain ol' paper hang somewhere by the board or by the menu board. No notice UNTIL I was at the spot to order; at that time I was informed that they take cash only. Before I pulled in, I noticed there were quite a few cars, but I was confident that the line would go through quickly; that was my experience with McDonald in the past. It was not. I was on the line for over 15 minutes. You wonder why I did not leave. Well, I tried. There was no room to manuver (the drive through does not have a dedicated empty lane for cars to go through.) I did not know that there was a turning lane, but to get to the turning lane (to leave the drive through line), I had to wait for 3 other cars (for the merging lane) and then the line was moving extremely slow. The goal of people going to the drive through was for people to get in and out. I waited in the drive through before, but the expectation was, at McDonald drive through, one should go in and out fairly quickly. I understand they are trying to fix the problem (& the system may only be down for less than 1/2 hour). My expectation was that they would have put a notice SOMEWHERE so people can see (that they can use cash only) prior to the ordering spot; I may have a different attitude. The screen that they were advertising things/smart board, that needs to be able to put an announcement let's say... "the credit card system is down." Or just hang a paper notice. It is not that hard to do that. I did try to call and talk to the manager in charge at that time (that it takes me over 15 minutes and I still have no food). He did offer me an apology, but no solution was provided. Solution could be, offering 1 free item OR "would you like to order now and we'll bring it to the curb shortly. What car you drive?" Last week, the special requests of two sandwiches I ordered were completely overlooked (it’s upsetting to discover this after you have driven away, given that special requests can incur additional costs). I understand making a mistake for one. But for both?
Today, at lunch, I went in personally because the car lanes were overwhelmed.
I used the opportunity to speak to a manager. After politely hearing me out, he entered my order personally – but forgot my fries.
While I waited, different customers next to me had different challenges. One was livid with his order taker repeatedly misinterpreting his order. With another, his order had bern fixed but incorrectly so. And another pointed out that milk had gone bad – certainly concerning if a child were to drink it.
The manager showed grace under multiple fire. However, despite it leading with enjoyable food quality, this branch lags in correct order fulfillment. Late this evening my daughter & I stopped in for a take home order and the same substitution on a item happened again, now I'm feeling jinxed! I paid for the complete order; Double Quarter Pounder w/ cheese + the other items and again I received a 'Quarter pounder'...no Double!! This is the 2nd time the crew subbed a lower price hamburger and didn't even say 'oops' sorry. Only this time I carried the sub-hamburger back into the counter and told the young woman that this was the 2nd time they subbed a single QP for my Dbl Quarter , the previous time I didn't get a Dbl Quarter Pounder replacement, got stuck w/ the single QP which the crew subbed. Guess the Boise franchisee family has to make their $$ back for the remodels, but ripping off customers is the way to maintain customer relations.
