Was interested due to the massive hype here in MI over the opening. Went on weeknight after 8:30 PM. One (1) other table was occupied, choose the table as we walked in due to hour. We wanted to keep things as direct/quick as possible in respect of both FOH & BOH.
No slices a avaliable, disappointing, but understood. Our server was delightful, training another older limited in English speaking/understanding woman. The younger server trainer was a bit hurried as the time dictated. Im sure sidewalk, cleaning, totalling her checkout were all needed, so the majority of our services were provided by the English learning trainee. She was very helpful and although the language barrier was apparent? Did not cause issues until at the end, a togo/carryout box was requested, never received.
We ordered extremely basic items, a spinach roll with side salad, and eggplant roll. The cook time was quite long given the order & as it seemed to be the last of the evening as the only other table had paid and finished . My side salad had to be requested, as I do like my salad before? Not with my main. I did not specify that when I ordered, thinking it was the norm to serve first? Maybe not these days, next time I will request when ordering.
Finished my late in starting salad, the main order had still not been provided. I attempted to order a glass of house chaniti, but I think lost in translation as what arrived was cold? Again, next time I will specify, as perhaps the adage of red wine being at room temp unless requested otherwise may have changed. I did not ask at the time for room temperature. Our rolls were brought out well after closing time, the order was placed a half hour prior so... my companion inhaled his eggplant roll as it's a favorite, & eggplant is not avaliable many places. I started to eat my spinach roll, the bread was delightful, the cheese tasty and good in proportion size throughout. The spinach however seems very grainy, soppy in water, and left me wishing I had included only cheese. A good first to know what I would like next time. The sauce I'm afraid to say as the basic side sauce is the heart of any Italian eatery, presenting in most all orders in one way or another. So the fact I found it tasteless, with little flavor if at all? Definitely was an enormous let down from all the extremely flattering chatter both read, and heard regarding the opening of this family involved throughout the once highly acclaimed Bizziros, to another family member reopening with the Mimmos rename. I believe there is also a location in Rockledge.
I had immediately requested the check when the food arrived, so as to close out and allow the server to close out one of her closing necessities. So I suppose the assumption of not requiring anything further was understandable, but I did wish to take my spinach roll home, sans side sauce. Asking the training server seemed to not be clear in understanding, as never arrived. My companion finally asked the person at the register for some aluminum foil and it was fine. Off we went, and my experience was fine. Not sure I will return as the disappointment over the sauce kinda closed return for me. As mentioned prior, tomato sauce is the basic in my experience of most all offerings. As I did not care for at all? Really did not leave me wanting to try again in another venue. It was fine in everything else, but did not have me as overwhelmed with all as with everyone else I had read, or heard had patronized. Just fine, not zealous as to return.
My companion loves bland sauce, as that's what he was raised on, I like taste in anything and everything. The taste bursting with all one expects in foremost flavorings & cooking so as to helping all the fresh ingredients to be present & accounted for at the very least. So perhaps only my taste expectations, not everyone. I cannot recommend, but due to my expectations only. Have to try &...
Read moreWe enjoyed a pizza a month ago that we picked up for take-out so we decided to eat in and try a few dishes off the menu. I ordered the chicken francese and my husband ordered the chicken parm. The meals came with a choice of soup or salad and we chose the soup which was pasta fagioli which was very good. The garlic knots that came with the meals were not. Very dense & hard with not much garlic oil and over saturated with grated parmesan cheese. We did not eat them as they were sub-par. The chicken parm consisted of two thick chicken breasts with sauce and cheese. My husband said the chicken was tender but he felt the marinara sauce was lacking in flavor. The same sauce was served with the two sides of pasta that came with our meals. My chicken francese was not the best I've ever had. Instead of chicken breasts similar to my husband's, I received two slices of chicken breast about a quarter inch thick, breaded and so overbrowned so that the lemon butter sauce had bits of the overcooked breading and subsequently tasted almost burnt. This is my signature dish to order to in Italian restaurants and I've never had this dish cooked like this. I did not eat the second slice of chicken as the breading was almost black around the edges. The chicken francese at Lello's in Rockledge, owned by a relative I've been told, it so much better with normal size chicken breasts and a delicate coating and wonderful sauce. The entrees are served on wide thin plates, resembling appetizer plates, which makes slices meats without spilling sauce a little challenging. On a better note, we ordered the bruschetta which was very good, however we were told after waiting for the order that they couldn't find the bread to make it with! They did though and we did enjoy it. We love Italian food and had high hopes for this new restaurant but we've found that the options here are not as good as South Florida. We love the chef at Lello's so we'll just continue to go there for...
Read moreNice staff, decent food. I got a Sicilian slice and a regular cheese slice to try. The Sicilian had a bland taste, and the crust was too airy and light in weight to be considered anything close to NY or northern style pizza. I had to add garlic and a little salt to give it more flavor. The regular slice was much more balanced and had the proper heft when picking it up to eat, folded. This reminded me of a good NY slice and would be my go-to if I came back. Eying some other customers topped pizza, they looked very good with plenty of fresh toppings. There is an unannounced or advertised two regular slices and 20 oz soda for $10. Had I known, I would have gone for that. They should put a sign up so more people might know. Other than that, the inside was a bit dated and older looking, likely the styling of the previous pizza joint that had been here. I will be back to try other items. Grand opening should be soon as of this writing, but they are open now. Edit: went back per owner and tried a Sicilian slice. He explained that sowmoen else made the pie that day and was not to his standard. I will say, the 2nd time back, the Sicilian slice was better. It had more flavor and better texture. I still think the regular round slice it the way to go, but you can't go...
