Visited on a Friday around 11am. Noticed a whole youth baseball team was having brunch on the patio so I expected a wait. Fortunately there were a few tables available inside and a seat at the bar. I chose the bar as my location for today so I could look into the kitchen and watch all of the action. One thing I noticed right away, it looked like the whole staff was female. It was really hard to tell if I was seeing all of the staff though because they were hustling! I noticed a lot of cooperation and communication. They're surely making some manager proud in here!
As usual, I ordered the traditional Benedict as my litmus test. It didn't take too long, maybe 10 minutes and out came my brunch. It looked complete, smelled really good and the presentation with the tater tots worked well for this level of cuisine.
As usual, I cut into one of the little egg pillows of goodness and out came the liquid gold of a perfectly cooked poached egg. Winner! The Hollandaise tasted buttery and had a little pinch of heat from a pinch or cayenne over the top. Definitely made my mouth happy! The tater tots were perfectly cooked and soaked up the leftover Hollandaise perfectly.
Of course, if I wanted to nit pick, I would say that the Hollandaise was a bit thin and should have had more taste from the lemon juice, the butter ratio was a bit off and wasn't fully emulsified. The English muffin was slightly undercooked but I liked that it was a little bigger but the eggs needed to be extra large to keep that feel of symmetry. The Canadian bacon was not, it was ham cooled on the flattop. Nothing wrong with some flattop ham, it's just not Canadian bacon. The tots could have used a little more salt coming from the kitchen. But remember, I'm nit picking.
Overall I enjoyed this place, the decor is cute and the staff friendly. They offer alcohol here too, from Mimosas to Bloody Mary's the bar patrons were having a happy morning while I was there.
I will come back here, and I will have the Benedict again. So few places can get it right that when it's this close you...
Read moreI really wish I had better things to say about this location, as the Gilbert location is fantastic. My husband and I live much closer to the Mesa location, so we gave it a shot.
When we arrived, we asked to sit outside, which seemed to annoy the host because there were already a lot of people outside (but still a few empty tables). We were able to get a table outside, and we ordered pretty quickly. My husband got the jalapeño cheddar biscuits and gravy, as that was the star of the show at the Gilbert Over Easy location. I ordered the breakfast burrito. My husband took two bites of his biscuits and couldn't eat them. They were SO salty. It was as if someone had accidentally dumped out a salt shaker over this batch. He sent it back and they asked if he wanted something else, so he ordered a country fried steak breakfast, the only other thing on the menu he would like (he's not a fan of eggs, pancakes, etc.) His country fried steak was very tough and gristly, but the breading was very tasty. At $13 though, he would definitely not order it again. The waitress told us we were the 3rd people to say the biscuits were salty, and that they don't make them in house, they come from a local bakery. So they couldn't remake them.
My burrito was meh. No flavor, and the cheese was cold? Literally, a cold slice of American cheese placed in a warm burrito. It didn't melt, so it was just a weird temperature and texture. The fruit on the side was hard and not fresh, except the grapes - those were delicious. I wouldn't order this meal again.
I was a little annoyed we had to pay full price for my husband's breakfast, as he had to order something that was $4 more than his original breakfast, because it was his only other option. Maybe my expectations are too high, but. Either way, we will not be returning to...
Read moreThe first and 2nd time I had ate here was wonderful! The staff was very nice and the food was really good! Now I came on a Saturday with someone and ordered the pumpkin bread french toast. It took like 20 plus minutes for the food to come out and it was NOT GOOD! I had this dish my 2nd time coming here and it was fine, very tasty actually. Now this time it was soggy and they were extremely stingy on the sauce. I was concerned because the French toast tasted like pure egg. Which even though I went to an egg breakfast place I don't like eggs. The taste of the bread was pretty much raw egg with cinnamon on extremely soggy bread. I sat there and waited for our waitress to come back and told her about the situation. She told me she would have them remake it and I was okay with that. I waited and the manager comes to give me my "french toast". She leaves and I take the first bite of the considerably flat pumpkin french toast. Still eggy but hey I'm hungry and I want to leave so I just continue to take a couple bites. I take a fork full of the toast and I see a giant hair on my fork which is most definitely not mine because I don't have brown hair. At this point I'm upset and tell the waitress about it and she says for me to get something else. I order the chocolate pancakes to go and wait..Again. she tells us she exchanged the price for the pancakes which I think my meal should have been canceled because I had 3 bad experiences in one visit. Anyways I go back home to eat the pancakes and they barely are chocolate chip pancakes because they take regular pancakes and put a handful of chocolate chips on top not inside. I'm super disappointed because this place was almost my favorite breakfast spot but after then I'm...
